“When I got out, I didn’t even know I was a Veteran.”

For two years after leaving the Army, Dottie Adams didn’t realize the resources and benefits available to her.

Today, she helps make sure other Veterans don’t have to navigate that journey alone.

As the Florida Veterans Coalition’s State Director of Veteran Resources, Dottie helps transitioning service members, Veterans, widows, and military families better understand and access the resources they’ve earned.

🎤 Hear Dottie’s story at the Florida Veterans Coalition Lunch & Learn.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of exactly why programs like Operation Safe Landing matter.

🌟 Congratulations to the South Florida Water Management District’s August 2026 Team of the Month! 🌟

🎉 This team expedited a first-of-a-kind agreement that will advance construction of key Everglades restoration projects in South Florida.

📄 The District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers signed the agreement in July 2026. It ensures federal funding will go to the State of Florida for projects that will line up with the completion of construction of the EAA Reservoir Project. Those projects include a new EAA seepage management pump station and the Blue Shanty Flow Way Project, which unlocks a vital system to deliver more clean water south across Tamiami Trail and Florida Bay.

👏 Thank you to the outstanding District and USACE staff for their hard work on this innovative agreement!

The Mobile District is setting the record straight on recent claims about Mobile Harbor dredging and the decision not to hold a formal public hearing.

The Corps did not deny public input. The District reviewed the hearing requests, written comments, and existing record, and determined the requests did not raise new factual issues, materially different information, or unresolved matters that required a formal public hearing.

A few key facts:

The Mobile Harbor deepening and widening project is complete. We are now in the yearly operations and maintenance phase to keep the federal shipping channel safe and open.
Thin-layer placement is not currently proposed for the present maintenance dredging cycle and has not been used in Mobile Bay in more than a year. Claims tying current oyster impacts directly to ongoing thin-layer placement are not supported by current operations.

In the Mobile Harbor context, thin-layer placement has been evaluated and identified as beneficial use of dredged material. It is not the opposite of beneficial use — it is one of the tools that may be used to manage suitable sediment in a controlled way.

Dredged material management is not a simple choice between “dumping” and “proper disposal.” These decisions depend on sediment type, water conditions, permits, available placement sites, environmental requirements, cost, capacity, and the Corps’ federal responsibility to maintain safe navigation.

We remain committed to maintaining the federal shipping channel while protecting the long-term health of Mobile Bay.
