There are children who will grow up here and never get to meet Sister Claire. They will know caring neighbors, a familiar face to turn to, and a community that wants to see them thrive. And someday, when they ask how this Village began, we will tell them about our founder, who believed families deserved a place like this. About the dream that became the place they call home.
Today, children, caregivers, seniors, and staff gathered to tie yellow ribbon bows around our trees and throughout the Village in her memory. Every generation came together to honor the woman who helped make this community possible. Some carried their own memories of Sister Claire. Others were remembering someone they never had the chance to know. It hurts to know she is gone. But seeing everyone together today, we could see how much of what she began is still unfolding, in lives she may never have known she would touch.
Sister Claire, we wish you could see all of it. Every family who has found their footing here. Every child who feels at home. Every person who feels a little less alone because this Village exists. We wish we could bring you beneath these trees and tell you what it has meant to have this place and each other. Today, we tied our thank-you to the trees, wishing we could say it to you one more time.
Years from now, someone who grew up here will tell their children about the Village that helped raise them. And when they speak your name, Sister Claire, they will say, “She is the reason we have each other.” 💛
