The Emerging Green Builders and Designers at Hillsborough Community College convene architecture and construction students and provide a forum for the discussion of sustainability in the built environment. Sustainability is a term adopted by a movement in the building industry and use to define how we as building professionals should design our buildings to be energy efficient in all aspects. The
ultimate goal of Sustainability in this industry is to decrease and even eliminate many of the harmful building practices that have incurred immeasurable harm to building occupants and the planet for many years. In place of these harmful practices, which contribute to everything from poor indoor air quality to acceleration of global warming, will be new materials and methods of design and construction, which improve the health and quality of life of our buildings' occupants and our planet. Once we are successful in establishing these building practices as the standard, then we are heading in a direction that will enable us to leave behind a livable world for our descendants.
