Last month, St. Joseph's Hospital - North had the pleasure of welcoming local Girl Scouts to learn more about robotic surgery and see the technology up close!

The Girl Scouts got a firsthand look at how robotic surgery works and learned how this technology helps surgeons care for patients. Their curiosity and eagerness to learn made the experience even more special. St. Joseph’s Hospital - North was proud to share this experience with the group and help inspire an interest in the world of health care.

Meet Turbo Teddy, the newest helping hand at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. 🤖💙

Made possible through the generosity of donor David Fink and named after his beloved dog, Turbo Teddy helps deliver medications throughout the Children’s Hospital. Turbo Teddy’s purpose is to help shorten wait times for infusion medications, giving care teams more time to focus on what matters most: caring for their patients.

A big thank you to David and the Fink Family for their generous support and for helping us continue to make a difference for the children and families we serve!

From a young age, Dr. Carlos Abanses knew he wanted to become a physician. After experiencing several health challenges as a child, he was inspired to help other kids facing similar difficulties. His passion deepened when he shadowed his soccer coach, who was also a doctor, sparking a lasting commitment to medicine and caring for children.

Today, as a pediatric emergency medicine physician at the Steinbrenner Children's Emergency and Trauma Center at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, Dr. Abanses is dedicated to providing personalized, compassionate care to every child he treats. He emphasizes that while there are always challenging days, it is the moments of recovery and positive impact that stay with him and continue to inspire his work.

His story reflects the heart of pediatric care, helping children heal, grow, and thrive. 💙

August 4, 2025, began like any other workday for Vivian Kropik. But within hours, everything changed when she rushed to the scene of a devastating crash that left her 12-year-old daughter, Charlotte, critically injured.

Charlotte was airlifted to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, where she underwent multiple emergency surgeries and began her long road to recovery. While Charlotte received exceptional medical care, Vivian found support of her own through the hospital team and the Ronald McDonald House, which gave her a place to stay just steps from her daughter's bedside.

Today, Charlotte is back home, thriving and inspired to become a pediatric ER nurse so she can one day care for children the way she was cared for.
