Parents As Teachers Tampa Parents As Teachers is a program of Champions for Children, funded by the Children's Board of Hillsborough County and United Way.

Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based home visiting program that promotes positive parent child interactions, developmental centered parenting and family well-being. Parents As Teachers is an internationally recognized early childhood parent education and family support program. Certified Parent Educators provide in-home parent education and family support to families throughout pregnancy until their child enters first grade. By helping parents understand what to expect during each stage of development, parents can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills. PAT believes that parents are their children's first and most influential teacher and provides them with the tools necessary to be successful at the most important "job" they will ever have. 🎨✂️ Milestone Monday: Fine Motor Skills

Can you guess what she was drawing?

What started as a simple circle quickly turned into a creative masterpiece! After drawing her picture, she practiced her fine motor skills by using child-safe scissors to cut it out. Then, she taped it to the floor and joined in on our fun Circle Hop activity.

Activities like drawing, cutting, and hopping help build hand strength, coordination, creativity, and confidence, all while having fun! 💙

Activities like this help build gross motor skills, confidence, communication, and social-emotional development, all while having fun! 🎉😊

Each year, this conference brings together professionals from across the country who are dedicated to helping children learn, grow, and thrive through strong family relationships. We look forward to bringing back new ideas, tools, and information that will help us continue providing high-quality services to our PAT families.

🧵 Milestone Monday: Beading 🧵

Did you know that beading is more than just a fun activity? According to the Ages & Stages Questionnaire® (ASQ), activities like beading help support your child's fine motor development.

As children pick up, grasp, and thread beads, they strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers needed for future skills like writing, buttoning clothes, and using utensils. Beading also helps develop hand-eye coordination, concentration, problem-solving, and early math skills as children explore colors, patterns, and sizes.

The best part? When parents and caregivers participate alongside their children, they create opportunities for conversation, learning, and connection. Talking about the colors of the beads, counting them together, or creating simple patterns helps build language skills while strengthening the parent-child relationship. 💙

🧵 Lunes de Hitos del Desarrollo: Ensartar Cuentas 🧵

¿Sabías que ensartar cuentas es mucho más que una actividad divertida? Según el Cuestionario de Edades y Etapas (ASQ®), actividades como esta ayudan a fortalecer el desarrollo de la motricidad fina de tu hijo.

Cuando los niños toman, agarran y ensartan cuentas, fortalecen los músculos pequeños de sus manos y dedos que necesitarán más adelante para escribir, abrochar botones y usar utensilios. Además, esta actividad favorece la coordinación ojo-mano, la concentración, la resolución de problemas y las habilidades matemáticas tempranas al explorar colores, patrones y tamaños.

¿La mejor parte? Cuando los padres y cuidadores participan junto a sus hijos, crean oportunidades para conversar, aprender y fortalecer su vínculo. Hablar sobre los colores de las cuentas, contarlas juntos o crear patrones sencillos ayuda a desarrollar el lenguaje mientras fortalece la relación entre padres e hijos. 💙

🚒👮‍♀️👩‍⚕️🚑 We just wrapped up our first Group Connection

During our fun-filled session, families learned about the superheroes of our community (aka community helpers) and how they save the day on a daily basis. We chatted about the cool people we meet when we're out and about, and how they keep our communities safe, healthy, and strong. 🙌 Oh, and we even wrote a letter... like, an actual 😂
But seriously, it's still a super important skill for kiddos to learn. It helps with early literacy, communication, and fine motor skills, and teaches them how to connect with others in a way that's not just a thumbs-up emoji. 👍 Through stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, families had a blast learning, playing, and growing together. ❤️

🚒👮‍♀️👩‍⚕️🚑 ¡Acabamos de finalizar nuestra primera Conexión Grupal!

Durante nuestra divertida sesión, las familias aprendieron sobre los superhéroes de nuestra comunidad (también conocidos como ayudantes comunitarios) y cómo ayudan a las personas todos los días. Conversamos sobre las personas que vemos cuando estamos en la comunidad y cómo contribuyen a mantener nuestras comunidades seguras, saludables y fuertes. 🙌

Y hasta escribimos una carta... ¡una carta de verdad! 😂 Pero hablando en serio, sigue siendo una habilidad muy importante para que los niños aprendan. Ayuda a desarrollar la alfabetización temprana, las habilidades de comunicación y la motricidad fina, además de enseñarles formas significativas de conectarse con otras personas, más allá de un simple emoji de pulgar arriba. 👍

🎨🖌️ Painting in a Bag: Learning Through Play! 🖌️🎨

Painting in a bag is a fun Parents as Teachers activity designed for children ages 14-24 months. While it may look like simple play, children are developing important fine motor skills as they squeeze, squish, push, and move the paint around inside the bag. These movements help strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers that will later be used for skills like holding crayons, using utensils, and buttoning clothes.

Parents can join in by talking about the colors, shapes, and movements they see. This parent-child interaction helps build language skills while encouraging children to explore and learn through their senses. Best of all, it's a mess-free way to create, discover, and have fun together! ❤️

¡Pintar en una bolsa es una de las actividades favoritas de nuestras familias y Educadores de Padres! Esta actividad de Parents as Teachers, diseñada para niños de 14 a 24 meses, es una forma divertida y atractiva de apoyar el desarrollo de la motricidad fina. Mientras los niños aprietan, aplastan, presionan y mueven la pintura dentro de la bolsa, fortalecen los pequeños músculos de sus manos y dedos que más adelante les ayudarán a sostener crayones, usar utensilios y abrochar botones.

Los padres pueden participar hablando sobre los colores, patrones y movimientos que observan. Estas conversaciones ayudan a desarrollar las habilidades del lenguaje mientras crean momentos significativos de interacción entre padres e hijos. Lo mejor de todo es que esta actividad anima a los niños a explorar, crear y aprender a través del juego de una manera segura y sin ensuciar. ❤️
