Parents As Teachers Tampa Parents As Teachers is a program of Champions for Children, funded by the Children's Board of Hillsborough County and United Way.

Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based home visiting program that promotes positive parent child interactions, developmental centered parenting and family well-being. Parents As Teachers is an internationally recognized early childhood parent education and family support program. Certified Parent Educators provide in-home parent education and family support to families throughout pregnancy until

their child enters first grade. By helping parents understand what to expect during each stage of development, parents can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills. PAT believes that parents are their children's first and most influential teacher and provides them with the tools necessary to be successful at the most important "job" they will ever have. Building Independence Through Everyday Learning

Practicing self-help skills such as buttoning, snapping, and zipping helps children strengthen fine motor skills, develop hand-eye coordination, and build confidence in themselves.

When parents provide opportunities to practice these skills, they also help strengthen their child's self-esteem, perseverance, and sense of accomplishment. Every small success is a big step toward independence.

Tuesday Tip

Florida sunshine is wonderful, but Tampa's current heatwave means we need to pay extra attention to hydration. Children may not always recognize when they're thirsty, so regular water breaks are essential.

Remember: 💧 Drink water before, during, and after outdoor activities 🏡 Plan indoor activities during peak afternoon heat 👒 Wear lightweight clothing and hats when outdoors 🍎 Include hydrating fruits and vegetables in meals and snacks

Together, we can help keep our children safe and healthy all summer long!

This month, we're having fun with ice cream-themed activities at our Group Connection! 🍨🎉

Group Connections bring families together to learn, play, and build relationships in a supportive community environment. These gatherings provide opportunities for parents and caregivers to connect, share experiences, and learn more about their child's development. Children enjoy engaging activities that encourage learning, creativity, socialization, and fun!

We're excited to continue meeting new families and seeing new faces at each event. If you haven't attended a Group Connection yet, this is the perfect time to join us! Come make new friends, enjoy some ice cream fun, and discover all the ways we support families and children's growth together.

🥤 Did You Know? 🥤

Learning to drink from an open cup helps children build skills that are reflected in the ASQ® developmental areas. As they hold, lift, and tilt a cup, they strengthen fine motor skills, improve coordination, and practice self-help skills that support growing independence.

A few spills are part of the learning process, and that's okay! With encouragement and practice, every sip helps build confidence and supports healthy development.

This is one of the many reasons Parents as Teachers administers the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) with all of our families. The ASQ helps us celebrate children's strengths, monitor developmental progress, and provide activities that support each child's learning and growth.

💙 Every child develops at their own pace, and we're here to support families every step of the way!
