Tips for eating well on vacation if you're traveling to a place by car that has a kitchen:

1. Prep some easy meals in advance. This does mean traveling with a cooler! Think about recipes that can travel well like putting marinade and meat in a ziplock bag, a casserole that can be made ahead and baked later, or lean ground beef and hamburgers for a fun grilling night.

2. Pack vegetables that are easy to throw on the table. Salad, carrots and hummus, or broccoli that can be tossed in olive oil and salt and roasted.

3. Have plenty of delicious fruit available in the fridge for snacking. This is the best time for amazing sweet fruit! Whether it is strawberries, blueberries, peaches, or whatever is your favorite, have it ready for hands that want to snack!

4. If you want food that you don't normally eat, get it! You're on vacation and you should be able to try and enjoy different things!

Looking for something fun to do with the kiddos this summer?

Try picking fruit! Strawberry season will soon come to an end, so check those out first. Blueberry season is up next and you may even be able to find a place to pick blackberries and raspberries. If you are feeling adventurous at the end of the summer, you can make a day trip to the mountains for some apple picking!

Just do a google search for fruit picking near you, have fun, and enjoy the best fruit nature has to offer!

Looking for a delicious way to add more fruits and vegetables into your child's daily diet? This summer, experiment with smoothies!

Frozen fruit, such as strawberries, blueberries, and bananas, work well with a handful of spinach. Spinach blends very smoothly without changing flavor.

Milk is a great liquid to add, although you can experiment with different types of 100% fruit juice.

Want to add some extra protein? Throw in some Greek yogurt!

The season is over, but that doesn't mean the activity needs to stop! Any way your child enjoys being active is a good way to be active, as long as it is safe! If your child wants to keep his or her running fitness, here are a few suggestions:

1. Encourage fun games that encourage a lot of running like tag.
2. Sports, like soccer, that involve a lot of running are great.
3. Go out for a post-dinner family walk/run.
4. Check out a new park or a favorite place with a walking path and enjoy a walk/run.

Do children need sports drinks?

Although sports drinks can be a great tool for athletes, they are often overused in youth athletics. Sports drinks are full of sugar and sodium, which is very necessary sometimes. Usually, they are unnecessary when running a 5k.

When should they be used?

-If an athlete is very nervous before a race and can't handle eating.
-When continuous exercise lasts for more than 70-90 minutes.
-When exercise is intense and in a hot and humid climate.
-When an athlete is participating in two sports in one day and it has become difficult to get enough calories and sodium.
