Is São Paulo getting closer to Tampa Bay?

Tampa International Airport (TPA) is actively working to establish a direct flight to São Paulo, Brazil, identifying it as one of its top international priorities. Airport officials have been pursuing this connection for years, citing a strong "trifecta" of demand that makes the route highly viable:

* Business demand: Tampa-based The Mosaic Co. has significant operations in Brazil, currently requiring employees to travel through other hubs like Orlando.
* Inbound tourism: Brazil is already TPA’s third-largest source of international visitors, with approximately 30,000 tourists annually.
* Local diaspora: The Brazilian population in the Tampa Bay area is growing rapidly, with a 34% increase year-over-year as of 2024, totaling 16,500 residents.

Airport executives describe the route as being "on the stove" and are working "feverishly" to secure the connection, noting that the local growth is driven by both direct migration and individuals of Brazilian heritage relocating to Tampa Bay from other parts of Florida.

Our deepest gratitude to Sofya, a valued Sponsor Member of Brazil-Florida Business Council, Inc. Sofya is transforming healthcare by building a second brain for physicians — an AI that reasons in realtime together with medical professionals, not in their place. Built on proprietary AI models specialized in medicine, Sofya supports every critical step of the clinical workflow: it structures the clinical case, guides protocols, supports decisions, and writes the documentation while care happens, not after. Every suggestion is explainable and traceable to its clinical source, and the platform is fully programmable — each institution adapts it to its own protocols and standards of care.

Founded in São Paulo and incubated at Hospital Sírio-Libanês—one of Latin America’s leading medical centers— and now headquartered in Miami, Sofya combines deep clinical expertise with cutting-edge technology. With a multidisciplinary global team of physicians, AI scientists, and healthcare innovators across Brazil and the United States, the company collaborates with leading healthcare organizations and research initiatives — including the Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate program and MV, Latin America's leading EHR provider, present in more than 1,500 hospitals. By turning unstructured clinical data into reasoning physicians can see, question, and use, Sofya raises the standard of every encounter — enabling precision care, at scale.
