Crime on 9th Street has long plagued Ybor Heights. That might soon change.

The green stars on the map show vacant lots where building plans have been approved or homes are already under construction.

The yellow stars shows where a vacant lot has recently changed hands.

The red star shows a vacant lot for sale.

Property acquisition through tax deed auction sales has driven the development of three new single family homes on what was once the worst location for illegal dumping in the neighborhood. The tax deed auction sale of the vacant lot at 906 E. 26th Avenue a month ago provides additional space for new housing.

With all these potential eyes on the street, we can be hopeful that safety in this corner of the neighborhood may improve.

A while back I mapped out all the "crime watch" signs in Ybor Heights. Anyone have any opinions about where they are and if they could better positioned elsewhere? Seeking feedback.

❗All hands on deck! We need your help.

🌷Habitat for Humanity has selected Ybor Heights for their next Rock the Block event in June 2026. This is an amazing opportunity for our neighborhood. We'll need your help to make it a success.

🏡 Rock the Block will combine home improvements through Habitat's Home Preservation Program with beautification to one of Ybor Heights' local parks.

💪 Here's the push - We have to get applications back from homeowners before the end of April. June will be here before we know it. We are in a major time crunch.

🙏 Here's our ask - We need volunteers to help canvas the neighborhood so we can get this information to homeowners in need. We also need volunteers to help on the day of the event.

🚪 Mimi and I will be canvassing when we can, but we can't do this without you. If you can hang a couple door hangers, if you know someone on your street whose home needs some love, if you drive past that same house every day and think it could use some work, now is your chance to make a difference.

🤝 Many hands make light work. Any little bit helps. Reach out and we'll let you know how you can help bring us closer to making this event a success.

Let's do this!

Reminder: The Southwest Florida Water Management District has passed a Modified Phase III "Extreme" Water Shortage due to ongoing dry conditions across our region. Tampa Water Department customers cannot irrigate lawns more than once a week and only on their designated watering day (no change). Additional restrictions apply, including:
Irrigation is prohibited between 4am and 8pm (shortened hours)
Handwatering and microirrigation is allowed on any day, but is now prohibited between 8am and 6pm
No pressure washing for aesthetic purposes. Pressure washing in preparation for painting and sealing is allowed
The use of decorative fountains is limited to 4 hours per day
Why does this matter? Outdoor watering can account for up to 50% of your home’s water use. Following our outdoor watering rules is essential to protecting our water supply. Find your watering day at tampa.gov/WaterRestrictions. Report leaks or violations to tampaconnect.com.
