LUNCH JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT SWEETER! 😋🍽🍓✨ We have partnered with Wish Farms to bring fresh, locally-grown strawberries to all of our schools.

Every week, now through the end of March, strawberries will be available as a sweet and healthy addition to our lunch offerings.

Last week we kicked off Farm to School Month at Pinecrest Elementary introducing our Harvest of the Month program featuring delicious sweet corn from R.C. Hatton Farms.

Our newly established Hillsborough Farm to School Coalition is a network of partners involved in Farm to School. We have over 30 participating organizations representing the school district, non profit organizations, government agencies, universities, healthcare, private companies, farmers, and parents.

Events like this are meant to showcase each of the components of Farm to School - this month we are highlighting our efforts to increase purchases from Florida producers for school meals. Future events will highlight school gardens and food based education.

The Locally Grown Project is focused on aligning the work of our partners and making meaningful connections to the cafeteria so that we see more students selecting and consuming the nutritious foods we are adding to the menus. A partnership between the school district and nonprofit Locally Grown is working to get fresh produce from local farms into students' meals.

Today officially marks the start of National Farm to School Month! Happy farm to school month to all the farmers, producers, educators, students, families, advocates, policymakers, school district leaders, and cafeteria staff who make farm to school possible. 💚

Great visit from our friends across the bridge today!
Homegrown Hillsborough is a pathbreaking project coordinated by Monica Petrella at that seeks to build a local/regional food system by bringing folks together from all sectors of the food system. Awesome to see some old friends and meet some new ones.
So fun to demonstrate the products of all the hard work Farmer Maggie and the summer interns, Jackson, Colby, and Kionna have been putting in. Stay tuned for more!

Shout out to City of Tampa and their Backyard Composting Program. So easy to setup and their training was very well done! Such an amazing free resource!

We got this small kitchen trash can that hangs over the cabinet door to collect our compost waste and then take it out every day or two. So easy!
