Harriet the Wobble Kitty

Harriet the Wobble Kitty Harriet needs x rays and a neurological consult to determine why she falls side to side when she walks.

Harriet came into Rebels Rescue, a 501c3 rescue group located in the Tampa Bay area, on September 9th with her sister Hermoine. Soon after, Harriet developed a wobble in her back hips and often falls side to side. After two vet visits, Harriet needs x rays and a neurological consultation. Harriet's future relies on the community's help to raise enough money to cover diagnostic testing to find out

what is causing her wobble. Currently, Rebels Rescue is also working to raise the funds for the appropriate treatment Harriet may need so she can one day find her forever home. This page is dedicated to Harriet in hopes to raise enough money to cover all of Harriet's medical bills, as well as share Harriet's story so other cat parents with their four-legged friends experiencing similar symptoms can learn and grow together. All proceeds exceeding Harriet's bills will be used for the necessary medical treatment of other foster cats and dogs while they await their forever homes.

This precious memory of baby Harriet came up on our newsfeed and we couldn't help but share. 8 years ago yesterday... Harriet made an appearance as a special guest at open mic night to raise funds for her medical bills. She sure did travel around a lot in her younger days. Now she enjoys the finer things in life like lounging in the sun and nibbling on plants. And she's earned every minute of it! šŸ˜

It's a big day for our little Harriet! After 7 years, we finally decided it was time for her spay surgery. Having her put under anesthesia has always been our biggest concern, but we know the risks of cancer and infection in unspayed females far outweighs the risk of anesthesia. Due to her age (can you believe she's old enough to be referred to as geriatic?!?! We sure can't!) and condition, she had bloodwork done this morning and was cleared to move forward with the surgery!! Please send positive vibes Harriet's way for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery!!

It's that time of year again when the shelters and rescues are nearing capacity while more kittens continue to be born everyday.

We are raising funds to support the medical care of cats & kittens currently being fostered through Rebels Rescue-- the same rescue group that has had my back every step of the way through Harriet's medical journey. Without them, Harriet would not be here today. We ask that you please consider purchasing popcorn from our "Pop-up" Popcorn Store. 50% of all purchases goes directly to Rebels Rescue.

Or, if popcorn is not your forte, donations can always be made directly to Rebels Rescue via https://www.rebelsrescue.com/info/donate

Look who has her s***k back! Harriet finished her last dose of antibiotics on Wednesday and we are anxiously awaiting her vet appointment May 17th for follow-up blood work & a chem panel to hopefully shed some light on what caused her recent illness.

Happy Harriet Update:

Harriet is eating again! Her appetite is still poor and she's less interested in her wet food than usual, BUT she's been nibbling on dry kibbles here and there and has no problem eating her calorie booster and meal supplements. She's also been drinking water, grooming herself and more importantly--she's been zooming (or should I say wobbling) around the house. The transformation between Friday and today is absolutely astounding and certainly unexpected. Harriet is a fighter and she's resilient. I really don't know how else to explain it.

She had a vet visit at the regular veterinarian yesterday to establish a plan of care going forward. As of now, Harriet is to continue on her antibiotics and I will be working closely with her doctor, taking it day by day, to see what the next steps are towards determining a diagnosis and a treatment plan. She will be having follow-up blood work done (hopefully in the next few days) to compare her blood and chem panels against the results from this past Friday. Hoping this will provide some answers and rule out FIP.... yet again. Ugh!

Keep her in your thoughts! We will be back with more updates and snuggly Harriet photos :)

Look who's perked up?! I've gotten the opportunity to spend the last 4+ hours visiting with Harriet. Her fever broke last night and her temperature has remained in normal range for 24 hours. She isn't interested in food, but she's very alert and interested in checking out everything going on around her. Harriet will be coming home tonight for a "trial discharge" to see how she does at home. Woo!

Harriet Update:

I have decided to continue Harriet's current treatment at the emergency vet. When I spoke to the vet on duty last night, she had started Harriet on antibiotics and was exploring other treatment options to see if Harriet's condition could improve. Harriet's high-grade fever had come down a couple degrees and the vet saw no reason to not try a few different treatments. This morning, however, Harriet's fever was back up and no real improvements had been made. During my afternoon check-in, the vet on duty recommended Harriet stay for another 24 hours. Her fever was persistent, but there was no hard evidence that Harriet was OR was not responding to the treatment. I feel that another 24 hours of treatment will be significant in determining the next best course of action to take. FIP has not been ruled out, but the veterinarians are also not solely focused on FIP being the definite diagnosis and are making valiant efforts to look at any and all other causes. Please continue to keep Harriet's in your thoughts.

Harriet can barely walk but she learned to run. She can't jump but she learned to climb. She has overcome every obstacle in her way and we made a vow to stand by her and do the same. We refuse to let expenses stand in the way of her chance to keep living a life she fought so hard for. We will be raising funds through 5/24/2021 to offset her hospitalization expenses continued care.

"Harriet the Wobble Kitty" was diagnosed with FIP -a fatal disease- in 2015 at just 4-months-old. She wasn't expected to live to see 1. I began a crusade for answers and treatments. And we found them. Harriet celebrated her 1st birthday and even her 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th birthday. 5 years flew by wi...
