The forgotten 6
So many people are asking us why 7 dogs and two puppies were left behind when the humane society took 21 from this case. I don’t have a straight forward answer because alot of it’s unknown. What we know is the owner who lives in Pasco, surrendered 21 dogs to Pinellas animal services. I’d assume like our county shelter they must provide an address/a valid driver license at time of surrender. When someone surrenders that many animals truly the location should be investigated you never know if there are more or what you may walk into. I’m not sure how much these agencies communicate but what I know is how upsetting it would have been if no one advocated for the remaining dogs. We were told by countless neighbors this house has been reported to Pasco animal services over the course of 4 years, CPS was called, the sheriffs, mental health advocates. All these places came out and left. No solution, no correction. So MANY eyes on this place and yet humans and animals suffered due to mental illness. Dozens of news outlets have done the same story on the 21 dogs but not one has asked about the 9 other dogs which I think is important. We went and did physical labor, but their lives were saved because multiple individuals in that neighborhood cared. We are thankful 21 went to hstb who we know can house and support their needs. We are a small rescue and hope we can also advocate for proper mental health as well as figure out why for 4 years nothing was done. It’s important when you see something say something but now we are worried those calls won’t be taken seriously. If you’re ever struggling or overwhelmed please never hesitate to reach out to us.
