The word Asha means hope. Depending on the origin of the word, Asha can also mean happy, life, or wish.
Deliver Asha, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, exists to explore, prototype, and implement new strategies to effectively address the causes of systemic poverty in underinvested communities.
Breaking the cycle of poverty sadly continues to be a challenge for many residents of underinvested urban and rural communities, despite the huge sums of monies spent. The rigors of poverty endured by the residents of these communities, often rival the adversities faced by residents in many underdeveloped economies across the world.
Starting in the latter half of the twentieth century, the shift from an industrial manufacturing economy to an increasingly information-based economy resulted in substantial declines in well paid manufacturing jobs. Lacking the skills necessary to thrive in an information economy, many laid off employees found it difficult to get jobs with equivalent compensation. As a result, previously financially secure families have been thrust closer to the brink of poverty and forced to deal with the stresses associated with the uncertainties of living paycheck to paycheck.
Thanks to the efforts of numerous private and public sector initiatives, while aggregate levels of poverty have declined in the past half century, the opportunity gap remains a major hurdle for residents living in underinvested communities.
Likely contributing factors that prevent higher number of residents in underinvested communities to exit systemic poverty include lack of access to positive role models, the siloed design of public and private sector initiatives and complexity of eligibility rules.
Against this backdrop, Deliver Asha (DA) operations will strive to prototype and operationalize fresh strategies to help motivated residents of underinvested communities achieve fulfilling lives and establish roots within the community to serve as role models for future generations.
