Connecting the Campus to the Community

The Su***de Prevention Training Institute (SPTI) was honored to participate in the Pasco Hernando State College (PHSC) Porter Campus Resource Fair on September 22, 2026.

The event brought students, staff, and community organizations together to connect individuals with valuable social services, mental health support, and community resources.

SPTI had the opportunity to engage with students and community partners about the importance of su***de prevention and intervention education and the role each of us can play in creating safer, more connected communities.

Thank you to Dr. Eddie Williams and Arlene York for hosting an impactful event and providing a meaningful opportunity to connect with the PHSC community.

The Su***de Prevention Training Institute (SPTI) proudly celebrates Scott’s completion of his 75th Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop, marking a remarkable milestone in his commitment to su***de prevention.

Through these 75 ASIST workshops, Scott has helped train 1,266 participants, equipping individuals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognize su***de risk, have compassionate conversations, and intervene when someone may be struggling.

👏 Congratulations to our newest ASIST-trained community members! 💙

This past week, an incredible group of participants committed two full days to learning the Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) approach—gaining practical tools to recognize when someone may be at risk of su***de, have a direct and compassionate conversation, and work with someone to develop a plan for safety.

We are incredibly proud of each participant for making the decision to learn, listen, and be prepared to help save a life.

Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Be prepared. Be present. Be the person who can make a difference.

The Su***de Prevention Training Institute (SPTI) is excited to announce registration for our upcoming Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop!

ASIST is a two-day, 16-hour, face-to-face training that provides practical skills and confidence to recognize when someone may be at risk for su***de, respond effectively, and help create a plan for safety.

Whether you are a professional, volunteer, caregiver, family member, first responder, educator, faith leader, or concerned community member, ASIST can give you the tools to respond when someone needs help.

Friday, November 13 & Saturday, November 14, 2026

⏰ Full attendance for both days is required.

The workshop is designed so that each session builds upon the previous material, making full participation essential to successfully complete the training.

$50 Registration Deposit: A $50 deposit will be collected during Eventbrite registration and refunded at the conclusion of the workshop for participants who successfully attend the full 16-hour training.

If a participant is unable to attend the full training or cancels less than 14 days before the workshop, the deposit will be considered a donation to the Su***de Prevention Training Institute.

🎓 Continuing Education Credits

The Su***de Prevention Training Institute, in partnership with the Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center, is pleased to offer continuing education credits (CEUs) at no cost to participants who successfully complete the ASIST workshop.

It was an honor for Dr. T.C. Copper, Executive Director of the Su***de Prevention Training Institute, to participate in the North Tampa Chamber of Commerce's Pitch With a Purpose Breakfast as a member of the nonprofit panel.

The event provided a meaningful opportunity to introduce the Su***de Prevention Training Institute to Chamber members, share our mission of empowering individuals and organizations with life-saving su***de prevention education, and highlight the importance of building a community where everyone is equipped to recognize the warning signs and respond with confidence and compassion.

We are grateful to the North Tampa Chamber of Commerce for creating a platform that connects nonprofits with local business leaders and community partners who are committed to making a positive impact. Together, through collaboration, education, and awareness, we can strengthen our community and help save lives.

Thank you to everyone who attended, engaged in the conversation, and expressed interest in supporting our mission. We look forward to building new partnerships that advance su***de prevention and mental wellness throughout our region.
