Joseph Frangleson: A Life Saved by Determination and Love
In June 2018, when he was only 20 months old, little **Joseph Frangleson** was admitted to the nutrition program at the Mombin Crochu Health Center. He was suffering from **severe acute malnutrition** and his condition was extremely worrying.
After a few days of treatment, his family left the center with him and discontinued follow-up care. But at home, Joseph's condition deteriorated rapidly. Informed of the situation, the nutrition team went to his home. They found a very weak child whose life was in danger.
The team advised the family to bring Joseph back to the health center, warning them that every hour counted. However, the family hesitated, as they also had other children to care for and would have difficulty getting around.
Faced with the urgency of the situation, Miss Dashna Pierre, the nurse in charge of the nutrition program, refused to abandon Joseph. Driven by her sense of duty, her courage, and her love for children, she made the decision to bring him back to the health center herself.
Joseph was admitted a second time, in critical condition. For over a month, he received care, therapeutic feeding, and constant monitoring in the nutritional stabilization unit. Each day was a new battle. Every little bit of progress was celebrated as a victory.
Thanks to the tireless work of the entire team, Miss Dashna Pierre's determination, and the care he received, Joseph gradually regained his strength. Even when his condition allowed him to return home, the nurse continued to provide close support to ensure he did not relapse.
A few weeks later, the little boy had recovered. He was finally discharged from the program, to the great joy of his family and the entire center team. When his family returned and saw his transformation, they were deeply moved. They thanked the team for their patience, professionalism, perseverance, and above all, for never giving up on their child.
Today, Joseph Frangleson is almost 10 years old. The once so fragile little boy has become a symbol of hope and resilience. His story reminds us that a child can survive when the community rallies together, when caregivers work with dedication, and when no one gives up in the face of adversity.
