Hope Rekindled:
The church planting team in Bajao community, Sangley, Cavite, led by Pastor Ronnel, prayed for the Co-starter entrepreneur training to help mothers turn entrepreneurial opportunities into
sustainable livelihoods. Nearly a year ago, the entire community was almost completely destroyed by fire. It was a big step of faith to bring the training to the community and as it was promoted, we felt excited to see hope being reignited. CWTP’s Co-starter program empowers community members with growth opportunities. Seventeen mothers attended the twelve-week training.

Relief Reaches Sitio Pintor: A Day of Grace and Grit

The day wasn’t over—not until Kuya Jonar and his team reached Sitio Pintor in Montalban, Rizal, one of the communities hardest hit by the recent typhoon. Determined and prayerful, they pressed on, carrying more than just goods—they carried hope.

In partnership with Mount Pleasant Community Church, led by Pastor Rogelio Almerino, the team was able to deliver much-needed relief to some of the most vulnerable families in the area. What seemed impossible just days ago became a reality, thanks to the hands and hearts that came together—from those who donated, to the volunteers who tirelessly bought, sorted, and packed every item with care.

As goods were distributed—rice, canned food, toiletries, and more—smiles broke through the weariness, and for a moment, heavy hearts were lifted. It wasn’t just about the supplies; it was about showing up when it mattered most.

In the face of mud, damage, and despair, God’s love showed up in the form of neighbors helping neighbors, churches uniting, and communities refusing to give up.

As long as there are people in need, CWTP and our church partners remain committed to pressing on—one sitio, one family, one act of compassion at a time.

CWTP Relief Operation July 26, 2025:

Please pray for our team here and for our brethren here in Laguna. I think it will take a couple of days before the water subsides. Pray for their health, meds for Leptospirosis, and above-knee boots (BOTA). Courtesy of our Pastor Bartolome Valeriano.

Happy New Year!

What a year! As we look back, our hearts spring with deep gratitude for God's kindness and grace in the face of many uncertainties, challenges in our lives, and poverty surrounding us. The Christmas season reminds us of God stooping down into our world and making Himself come to be with us, the Emmanuel. Despite our fears and inadequacies, God remains present, holding and loving us. And everything we have is not a result of our own efforts or accomplishments but rather gifts from His kindness and grace, often given unexpectedly.

You have given gifts that enabled us to reach out to share this good news in the communities. Your kindness and partnership are representations of God with us in Companion With The Poor. THANK YOU!

Here are things we have seen happen through CWTP ministry in 2024:
-Church planting work by our 13 teams in Metro Manila and Cebu
-26,236 people have heard the gospel of Christ's salvation
-1,223 children have been fed each week through our feeding programs
-746 following the Lord in baptism

As we prepare for this New Year, we invite you to join us on this journey again. For this coming year, we are raising funds for our priority projects:

1. Church Plant building: we have 8 new areas we are starting in 2025. Funds have already come for 4 areas, and we are raising for 4 more:
-Need: $5,893 x 4 areas = $23,572

2. Weekly Feeding Program for the Children:
-Need: $215 per month x 13 areas = $2,795 per month

3. Co-Starter Entrepreneur Training Program:
-Need: $1,786 x 4 areas in 2025 = $7,144

In the planning stages:
4. Launching of CWTP Leadership Training Institute in 2025
5. Improvement on our CWTP's building roof deck to make way for more training rooms.

We have witnessed God's generosity to Companion With The Poor this past year, and we are trusting His provision for this priority budget goal for 2025. Remembering Jesus and all He has been to us in 2024 lifts our hearts. Like those who followed Jesus long before us, we can look forward with confidence as we remember God's great deeds of love and goodness. We also pray that this New Year deepens your and our faith in God's faithfulness in anticipation of what's ahead.

The gospel by haircutting!

Pastor Nhems, our church planter in the slum area of Cogon, Cebu, started a new bible study group with two families, but the father in the family wanted to stop them. The team found out that the father was a barber, so they asked if they could pay him to give haircuts to the boys in the community. They invited the boys in the neighborhood for free haircuts, which opened the way to share Christ and His salvation. The barber himself heard of the love, forgiveness, and salvation of Christ. We praise God for opening doors that bring the gospel of salvation to many. In one day of haircutting, it brought fifty people to the Lord Jesus Christ.

"...Jesus said to His disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.'" (Matthew 9:37) Would you consider making a year-end gift to further enable this work?

Sophia's household coming to Jesus

Sophia is 8 years old and one of the first children we taught about our Lord Jesus at our feeding every Saturday in the Badjao area in Cavite. In this last quarter, we taught the children in our feeding about the salvation of the Lord Jesus through His sacrifice on the cross. Sophia is one of those who prayed accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Through her, we invited her grandmother and her two older sisters, Katana and Wendellyn, to attend the church. Last July, we had a youth camp where we were able to take Sophia's two sisters, and they received the Lord and were baptized. Now Sophia continues coming to our bible studies and helps in preparing for teaching other children.

About Companion with the Poor

It began with International Teams Philippines Inc. (IT) way back in 1989. This was a subsidiary of IT International run by IT USA, IT Canada and IT Australia (founded by Kevin Dyer).

A couple of years back it was decided that the name of the church planting community be changed from MMP to Companion with the Poor, Inc. (CWTP) due to overseas immigration or visa limitations for missionaries. The Preschool department retained the corporation and name MMP. There are now two corporations, MMP and CWTP. CWTP is focused on church planting in the slums.

In the last 20 years, the attrition rate is less than 5%. 95% of the churches planted have survived. About 20% have reproduced and planted daughter churches in other slums.
