August is National Wellness Month, a reminder that wellness extends beyond physical health.

Behavioral health, meaningful relationships, stable employment, access to care, and community connection all contribute to long-term well-being. When communities invest in these areas, they create stronger foundations for prevention, recovery, and healthier lives.

Building wellness is a shared responsibility, and it starts with collaboration.

As summer comes to a close and students prepare to head back to school, it’s an important time to recognize and support young people in recovery.

The transition back to the classroom can bring new routines, social pressures, and stressors that make recovery support more important than ever. By creating recovery-friendly schools, connecting youth to trusted mentors, expanding access to behavioral health services, and fostering supportive families and communities, we can help young people continue to thrive.

Recovery is strengthened when youth know they are not alone. Every caring adult, educator, coach, healthcare provider, faith leader, and community partner has a role to play in creating environments where young people feel safe, connected, and empowered to make healthy choices.

As we begin a new school year, let’s recommit to supporting youth in recovery and investing in prevention, connection, and hope, because every student deserves the opportunity to succeed.

Live Tampa Bay was proud to partner this month with Better Living for Seniors to host a two-day Motivational Interviewing Communication Training led by Sara Schieffelin, LICSW, a MINT (Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers) Certified Motivational Interviewing Trainer.

Professionals who serve older adults gained practical, evidence-based communication strategies to better engage individuals, build trust, and support positive behavior change. Motivational Interviewing is a powerful approach that helps professionals meet people where they are with empathy, collaboration, and respect.

A heartfelt thank you to Sara for sharing her expertise and to Better Living for Seniors for partnering with us to invest in the people who make a difference every day. Together, we’re strengthening the workforce that supports healthier, more connected communities.
