Hello everyone!

I know we have been seemingly quiet on social media lately, but please know have not gone away. We remain dedicated to providing inner-city youth with greater access to S.T.E.A.M. opportunities. We have been diligently working on our infrastructure to ensure that we provide our students the best academic and life experience possible and our team with an incredible opportunity to make a tremendous impact with adequate support. With that, we are looking for TWO new board members to help us further our mission of igniting, inspiring, and empowering our future leaders. We have a specific need for a person with financial management and planning experience and someone with experience in marketing and fundraising. We do have a posting listed on the Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay website that provides a bit more details https://nlctb.org/board-finder/board-opening-listing-1017137/

If you are interested or would like to know more, please email [email protected], and we will gladly provide you with additional information.

Bessie Coleman was born in Atlanta, Texas in 1892. In 1921, Bessie Coleman received her flying license from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale—making her the first woman of African American descent and the first of Native American descent to earn a pilot license.

She was inspired to apply to aviation school after hearing stories of women aviators from soldiers who returned home from Europe after World War I. She was originally denied admission to aviation school due to her race and gender. In 1919, Coleman enrolled at the Caudron Brothers’ School of Aviation in France, and after seven months, she learned how to fly.

After receiving her pilot’s license, Coleman became a high-profile pilot in early, dangerous air shows in the United States. She hoped to start a school for African American fliers but tragically passed in a plane crash in 1926 while testing a new aircraft.
