6 Fearless Artists

Fearless Fibre comes from an creative collective of 6 wise artists. Barbara Forgione’s 12 sets of fearless girls from California to Harajuku on silk banners greet visitors with their unique styles from punk to cultural heritage. The show embodies a golden thread of hope for our world. Dr. Barbara Kazanis explains that Fearless Fibreis created in that moment in the artistic process when no one is in charge. Process and experimentation are crucial to these artists’ journeys. Kazanis works with the alchemy of the elements: Minerals, acids, heat, water, time. Carolyn Kossar peeks our curiosity with her woven surprises as she co-creates with the natural. Elizabeth Mitchell, the curator of Fearless Fibre, works in spontaneous expression, lyrical narratives, and prayers for an earth restored. Sarah Butz captures the resurrection of life after annihilation. Mei -Ling St. Leger has created a natural harmony with her designs on silk, they are like shrouds for the earth’s beauty.

Show Runs through August 26.

BIG news for Las Damas members. Our President, Catherine Chastain-Elliott, & our Vice President, Andrea Cardenas, are both stepping down. We wish Catherine all the best in her move to Oxford College at Emory University! Thank you, Catherine and Andrea, for your service for Las Damas. In their place, Judy Dato will be the Interim President and Pat Benjamin will be the Interim Vice President. Thank you, Judy and Pat, for stepping up when Las Damas called upon you. :-)

LDDA member, Patt Fosnaught, embarking on a new venture and at a new venue for her art classes: starting June 3rd, she will be offering drawing classes at the newly-renovated Old Hyde Park Art Center at 705 Swann Avenue on Wednesdays from 1 to 3:30pm.
The classes will be for every ability level from beginners who want to learn how to draw to experienced artists who want to sharpen their skills.
No need to pre-register, just come and enjoy the creative activity and relaxed interaction with others and some great “me time!” Classes are $15/class or $10/class if you prepay for 4 classes. Call if interested or for questions: 813-610-4096 (C)

One of the founders of LDDA has passed away. Helen Gordon Davis, thank you for all that you did for women, minorities, our city, and our state. We were lucky to have you for as long as we did.
