Today marks week six of Challenge Island, and our kids have grown so much! They are working together, they are confident and proud of their work, and their creativity is flourishing.

Every week, Challenge Island - North Tampa shows our kids that learning and STEM activities can be fun. For children who have experienced complex trauma, engaging in groups can be challenging. But week after week, Ms. Jackie has met each child where they are, encouraging them every step of the way.

From silly monkey playgrounds and ping pong tables to cat boxes and marble mazes, every project represents another step forward in their healing journey.

We can’t wait to see what they build next week!

A large part of healing for foster kids with complex trauma comes through art because it allows them, perhaps for the first time, to express themselves and discover the magic of creativity.

This week, some of our kids started art classes with Uniquely You Artistry, and each class painted gorgeous pieces that they can be proud of. With every painting they create, our kids find new and healthy ways to grow, and we get to see it firsthand!

We cannot wait to see what other masterpieces our kids will make next week!

Yesterday’s summer kick-off party was a blast! ☀️🎉

Our kiddos celebrated the first day of summer break with an afternoon of water games, prizes, delicious BBQ, and face painting. It was the perfect way to begin a season that will be filled with fun memories and new experiences.

A special thank you to LAMPLighters for making this day possible and kicking off the summer with us. Here’s to an amazing summer! 🌞

Have you ever wondered what happens when you place a flower into liquid nitrogen? Last week, our kiddos found out with a science demonstration!

Thank you to ICY SCI for teaching our kids last week, and we are so excited to see what they will learn next. We may have some future scientists in our midst!

Today, we pause to honor and reflect on those who have given their lives to protect our freedom. We are so thankful for their service to our country, and their sacrifice challenges us to be brave enough to care for those who need it most.

Because of their courage, we have the freedom to serve others with purpose.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Zion for earning his GED this year! We are so proud of him for this amazing accomplishment and so excited for him to start college. 🎓🎉

When Zion started his Joshua House journey, he was 14 and had missed 235 days in one school year, and many more days in the years prior. He tried to re-engage in his education but struggled with distractions and his trauma. Last fall, he decided it was time to try the Fostering Hearts FL GED program at Joshua House.

With true determination, he worked diligently with his tutors. He recently turned 18, and during his four years here, he healed and grew into a fine young man. All his hard work has truly paid off.

Last week, a team from Huron Consulting led a STEAM project with our kiddos. They built kaleidoscopes, foam dart launchers, small catapults, and other amazing toys. From start to finish, the kids were so invested in engineering these masterpieces and navigating the instructions with this team.

We always look forward to Huron volunteering every year with Joshua House. Thank you for spending the day with us!

The Kappa Delta chapter at USF has consistently supported Joshua House for over 15 years, and earlier this month, they raised more funds for us than they had ever before. From spending time with the children on our campus to hosting donation drives and fundraising across USF, these young women always show us the strength of compassion time and time again.

Thank you, Kappa Delta, for your incredible advocacy for foster children in our community! 💚
