A quarter of a million dollars. 💰

That is what it costs taxpayers over a lifetime to sustain just ONE teenager who is out of school and out of work.

Right here in Hillsborough County, nearly 2,800 kids between 16 and 18 are completely disconnected from education and employment. By age 19, that number more than doubles. It drains roughly $247 Million from our local ecosystem every single year.

But this isn't just a budget problem. It’s a human problem.

At the Small Magic Foundation, we are on a mission to flip the script for these kids before they fall into that gap. We provide the micro-grants, mentorship, and foundational support they need to build a future—and our very first grant cycle kicks off this August/September.

Most conferences follow the same formula. This one didn’t. 🙌

Yesterday at the Nonprofit Leadership Conference, I walked out the door actually energized — already thinking differently, already putting things into motion.

I reconnected with old friends, made new ones, and got a much-needed break from the heaviness of the world right now. At one point, we all lit up the room with our flashlights and took the stage to share why we matter.

That’s the way to conference.

The lifetime cost to support each one — through public assistance, mental health services, incarceration, and rehab — is $250,000.
