There were a number of states that refused to let go of the horrific past of slavery. Delaware being among them, finally ratified the 13 Amendment over three decades after the rest of the country had done so.

We still see the remnants of this reluctance to end slavery in many aspects of our society. From the prison industrial complex, education, housing, and in the economic structure of America we see inequality, injustice, and freedom denied

The story of Bunk Richardson was commonplace in the early 20th century as Black people attempted to establish themselves firmly in a white dominated society after slavery.

The South was notorious for lynching Black men, women, and children but it happened all over the country under the watch of a government that did not see fit to intervene.

The pain of such a cruel reality still lingers and even a century after this particular event there are still stories of Black lynchings that does not make headlines.

The Fight for Freedom Project believes that our purpose is not only to educate on the history of injustice and inhumane cruelty faced by Black people in America but to step up to the challenge to be the change we want to see.

A change that ensures that the generation to come after us and beyond can learn of our history and not have the same injustices be their reality.

On this date 106 years ago, the film “The Birth of a Nation” premiered and became known as one of the most racist films of all time but still went on to receive multiple awards despite the negative criticism. The film is 3 hours long filled with racist propaganda, it replays the Civil War with the Ku Klux Klan being praised as heroes for saving the South from Black rule during the reconstruction era. It’s influence is a testament to the brazen ideology known as white supremacy which presence can still be felt today. Join the Fight 4 freedom project and learn about the history of oppression and the ways to overcome them.
