Day One of the 11th Annual United Way Behavioral Health Conference, truly “Prevention in Action.” An impactful day filled with powerful reminders of what it means to truly be seen when we show up for one another and how healing happens through relationships and connection.

One of the most emotional moments was hearing Aisha McDonald’s heartfelt poetic tribute honoring Silvia Quintana with the Legacy Award as she transitions into a new chapter toward retirement after years of championing this important work.
Shout out to the incredible United Way team for the vision, dedication, and hard work poured into planning such a meaningful conference experience.

Honored to deliver training today to the incredible nurses of NFP, WHiN, and HBN on “The Silent Weight: Understanding the Ripple Effects of Maternal Mental Health in Black and Latino Communities.”

Today was more than a training it was a call to lead with compassion, cultural humility, and courage. We discussed the unseen burdens many mothers carry and the powerful role nurses play in recognizing, supporting, and advocating for maternal mental health in our communities.

This work is especially critical because maternal mental health conditions remain one of the leading causes of maternal mortality, contributing to approximately 27% of pregnancy-related deaths. Raising awareness, reducing stigma, and ensuring early support can save lives. Every conversation, every moment of listening, and every act of care has the potential to change the trajectory of a mother’s life and the well-being of her family.

Deeply grateful for the nurses who showed up ready to learn, reflect, and lead this work forward. The impact you make reaches far beyond the clinical setting.

Great day of community collaboration! Journey Institute was proud to partner with the Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank for their annual baby shower. Huge shoutout to Brittney Wolfe and Dwayne Wolfe for bringing together such an impactful event.

So many moms, dads, and little ones gathered to explore resources and services supporting unborn children, infants, and toddlers. Strong communities are built through connection, care, and collaboration. 💙👶

Honored to deliver training for the incredible Palm Beach NFP, WHIN and Healthy Beginnings nurses: “Holding Families Without Losing Yourself: Understanding Vicarious Trauma in Home Visiting Nurses.” Today was a powerful reminder that those who care for others so deeply also deserve spaces to restore, process, and protect their own well-being. We witnessed courageous stories of moral distress from the field, stories that reflected both the weight these nurses carry and the extraordinary compassion they bring into every home.

Thank you for the work you do every day to support families while continuing to learn how to offer compassion without losing yourselves in the process. Your care changes lives.

Filled with gratitude as the Broward County Board of County Commissioners honored The Journey Institute, Broward Healthy Start Coalition, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County, and Broward Health in recognizing May as Maternal Mental Health Month. Deeply thankful to Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis for championing this important effort to raise awareness around a critical issue impacting mothers, babies, and families across our community. Maternal health cannot exist without maternal mental health.

One in five mothers experiences maternal mental health challenges, and according to CSC data, in 2022 mental health conditions accounted for 27% of pregnancy-related deaths. These numbers remind us why this work is so urgent and necessary.
At The Journey Institute, we remain committed to championing this cause and creating healing-centered pathways for mothers, babies, and families to thrive. Together, through advocacy, awareness, and compassionate care, we can help ensure no mother walks this journey alone.

As we close out Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we proudly honored the caregivers who make a lasting difference in the lives of young children every single day. Through caregiver inclusion, we can change outcomes, strengthen families, and create brighter futures for children. Hearing the lived experiences shared during this inspiring event was truly powerful and a reminder of why this work matters so deeply.

Grateful for this meaningful collaboration with FAIMH and the Broward Chapter leadership. Special thanks to Alicia Ann Samuel, Chair, and Shantiga Williams, Co-Chair, for leading such an impactful event, and a very special thank you to our incredible panelists for courageously sharing your stories, insights, and lived experiences. Your voices made a lasting impact on everyone in attendance.
A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors: Children's Services Council of Broward County, Sunshine Health, LENT, and South Florida Hunger Coalition, we couldn’t have done it without your support.
Together, we continue building stronger, healthier futures for children and families.

Honored to attend the ChildNet Ripple Effect Gala, a beautiful reminder of how one act of support can change generations. One story especially stayed with me: a young woman who stepped up to care for her siblings while in foster care, overcame incredible odds, graduated, became a licensed social worker, and is now an endorsed Infant Mental Health professional. The power of a ripple effect is real.

So inspiring to witness lives transformed through compassion, guidance, and community support for foster children. Grateful for an unforgettable evening filled with hope, purpose, and heart. And what a treat to hear one of my favorite artists, Nestor Torres, with a wonderful evening beautifully hosted by Eric Yutzy. ✨

Grateful to have co-hosted our “From OB to Community” webinar alongside Dr. Christine Hughes. What an incredibly impactful space bringing together professionals locally, nationally, and internationally, united in one purpose: improving outcomes for mothers and babies.

We are deeply thankful for our distinguished panelists: Dr. Kay Roussos-Ross, Dr. Amalia Londono, Dr. Kristen Ellingsen, Monica King, and Julie Smythe, for sharing their expertise and advancing the conversation around integrated systems of care. This webinar highlighted a critical truth: when we build connected pathways from OB to community, we shift the experience and outcomes for mothers navigating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
Held in honor of Maternal Mental Health Week, we were also deeply honored that The Journey Institute received a proclamation from Commissioner Dunn recognizing May 4–10 as Maternal Mental Health Week, bringing visibility to this urgent and often overlooked issue.

With over 120 professionals in attendance, this collaboration with Florida Association for Infant Mental Health reflects the power of partnership, shared vision, and collective action. Grateful for everyone who showed up, leaned in, and continues to do this important work. 💛
