CONFIDENT RELIANCE

“But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.”
‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Does the lack or abundance of money dictate how you partner with God in seeing the gospel go forth?

Money can be a distraction as we serve the Lord. Either we don’t think we have enough, causing us to be discouraged from making an impact or, we have more than enough and become comfortable, relying on ourselves rather than God. Both mindsets inhibit us from focusing on what really matters: having compassion for others and the willingness to move in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Look at the phrase, “I’ll give you what I have.” Peter knew that he possessed something greater than money. Confident in the power of the Holy Spirit working through him, Peter grabs the man and sets him on his feet before any miracle takes place. It was in this act that his feet and ankles became strong. Praise God! And this is exactly the fruit of experiencing the power of God. Wonder, amazement and praise!

Father, thank You for Your Spirit, who lives in me. May I be confident as You work through me in my everyday life. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

INTERRUPTIBLE

“Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.”
‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Going about their normal routine, Peter and John were on their way to the temple, it was the hour of prayer. A beggar interrupts them and instead of walking past, they stop, looking straight at him, giving the man their undivided attention.

The New Testament reminds us to be ready for action. This can be a struggle for us when our heads are often down, distracted by scrolling through our phones and not aware of those around us. This is an invitation to be more engaged with the world around us.

Father, draw me close and shape me into the likeness of Jesus. Clothe me with power and fill me with courage. As I step into this day, send me as Your witness wherever I go.

Lord, when I am interrupted by others, please, help me to be present. Make me interruptible. Give me an opportunity to bless someone today with my undivided attention. Help me to be attentive and ready to share You with everyone I meet. This I pray in Jesus name, Amen.

HIS POWER IS ABSOLUTE

“Praise the Lord! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting!

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name.

How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭147‬:‭1‬, ‭3‬-‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

BOLD AND UNASHAMED

“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭37‬, ‭41‬ ‭NIV‬‬

After hearing Peter proclaim that the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth was God’s plan of redemption, the people were “cut to the heart”. What was happening in their hearts and minds that made them cry out “Brother’s what shall we do?”

Jesus taught his disciples that one of the works of Holy Spirit is to convict us of sin. For those of us who have been serving the Lord for some time, we are familiar with this feeling. It’s that prick of truth that invites change. The crowd were feeling conviction for the first time. It made them cry out, “what shall we do?” They could not stay the same.

Though the truth pricks us and feels uncomfortable, it urges us closer to the Father, whose desire is to forgive us and give us the gift of Himself.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes...”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Father, grant me the boldness to unashamedly plead with those who are lost, and to do so with faith to believe that you are able to save even those who seem furthest away.

JESUS OF NAZARETH

“”Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus of Nazareth. Why this name? Why not Jesus the Christ? Or Messiah?

The name Jesus of Nazareth causes us to think about the poor reputation of Nazareth (John 1:46). It wasn’t a place of prominence or somewhere that was respected. It speaks of humility and lowliness. The One from a place of humility was the One with the power of God at His finger tips. May we learn to walk in humility no matter how the Lord invites us to participate in His kingdom work.

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Father, thank You for inviting me to participate in Your kingdom work.
Lord, I yield myself to You today to be one who walks in humility and power as I go forth and share the good news. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

FEED MY SHEEP

“Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬-‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

FOCUS SCRIPTURE PASSAGE: Acts 2:14-21

Peter’s confident stance and boldness of speech makes it hard to believe that just months earlier he was fearful of exposure, cursing, and denying that he even knew Jesus. After failing his moment of testing, Peter decided to hang up his leadership hat, going back to the familiar life of being a fisherman.

Restored by the words of Jesus and filled by the Spirit, here Peter stands boldly with the Eleven, taking his place as an apostolic leader of the Church. He lifts his voice, commands the crowd to listen carefully to what he has to say, and in doing so fulfills the words of Jesus to, “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17).

Father, thank You for Your work of grace that seeks not only to restore me, but also releases me into participating in Your mission on earth today.

Jesus, sometimes my past failures caused me to feel disqualified from something. Lord, I open myself to Your mercy and invitation to live out the good works You have for me today.

Holy Spirit, draw me close and shape me into the likeness of Jesus. Clothe me with power from on high and fill me with courage. As I step into this day, send me as Your witness wherever go. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
