FEED MY SHEEP
“Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”
Acts 2:14-17 NIV
FOCUS SCRIPTURE PASSAGE: Acts 2:14-21
Peter’s confident stance and boldness of speech makes it hard to believe that just months earlier he was fearful of exposure, cursing, and denying that he even knew Jesus. After failing his moment of testing, Peter decided to hang up his leadership hat, going back to the familiar life of being a fisherman.
Restored by the words of Jesus and filled by the Spirit, here Peter stands boldly with the Eleven, taking his place as an apostolic leader of the Church. He lifts his voice, commands the crowd to listen carefully to what he has to say, and in doing so fulfills the words of Jesus to, “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17).
Father, thank You for Your work of grace that seeks not only to restore me, but also releases me into participating in Your mission on earth today.
Jesus, sometimes my past failures caused me to feel disqualified from something. Lord, I open myself to Your mercy and invitation to live out the good works You have for me today.
Holy Spirit, draw me close and shape me into the likeness of Jesus. Clothe me with power from on high and fill me with courage. As I step into this day, send me as Your witness wherever go. It’s in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
