This week in First Grade ELA, we are diving into the magical world of fairy tales! Today, our first graders read the classic story Jack and the Beanstalk and then put their creativity, teamwork, and engineering skills to the test with a STEM challenge.

The challenge: Build the highest structure that could stand on its own so Jack could make his way back to the Giant’s castle without using the beanstalk!

First Grade Blue worked in groups using cups, while First Grade Gold worked in groups using cubes.

Students practiced teamwork, communication, problem-solving, planning, building, perseverance, and creative thinking.

There were lots of ideas, adjustments, rebuilding, and, most importantly, learning through doing! We are so proud of our little engineers!

Celebrating Our Patron Saint: St. Jerome!

Throughout September, we will celebrate our patron saint, St. Jerome, as we prepare for his feast day on September 30th! Our new St. Jerome banner is now proudly displayed in the lobby, and students in grades 5–8 will begin each morning with a prayer to St. Jerome.

As a prolific writer and scholar, St. Jerome reminds us of the importance of learning and seeking God’s truth. Each PK-8th Grade classroom will also display a quote from St. Jerome throughout the month. We will conclude our celebration with Mass on his feast day. 🙏📚

On August 31, we celebrate the 9th anniversary of Bishop Schlert’s episcopal ordination and installation as the fifth Bishop of Allentown.

We give thanks to God for the gift of Bishop Schlert’s ministry and for the way he has served as a wonderful shepherd to the people of the Diocese of Allentown, guiding us with compassion, wisdom, and a deep love for the Church.

Please join us in prayer and thanksgiving for Bishop Schlert as he continues to lead our Diocese and serve the people entrusted to his care.
