We are proud to welcome MSGT Josh Steinback to the Tama-Toledo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6607.

Josh was able to spend this weekend back home with family and friends, and we were honored to have the opportunity to officially welcome him into our Post.

MSGT Steinback is recovering from injuries he sustained while on duty in Kuwait and will soon return to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for continued treatment and recovery.

Josh, you have a whole community behind you, and now you have another group of brothers and sisters standing with you at VFW Post 6607. We’re proud to have you as one of our own.

Welcome home, Josh — and welcome to Post 6607. We’ll be pulling for you every step of the way.

Thank you to the STC Music Boosters for allowing us to contribute to the success of the 2026 STC Marching Band season!

If anyone understands spending hours marching under a hot summer sun, it's the veterans of the Tama American Legion and Tama-Toledo VFW. Different uniforms, different missions—but the same advice: drink plenty of water!

We wish the entire STC Marching Band the very best this season. Work hard, take care of one another, stay hydrated...and if all else fails, try a little more cowbell. We can't wait to see you on the field this fall!

And while we failed in our mission to get a group photo, we do want to thank the students, staff, and boosters for making quick work of getting all that water hauled into the storage room. Here's a photo of Matt standing guard over the supplies until the reinforcements arrived. 😉

Every veteran deserves the opportunity to see the memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice.

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight provides veterans with a free trip to Washington, D.C., to visit our nation’s military monuments and memorials. Veterans from every branch are encouraged to apply—including those who served during wartime or peacetime, overseas or stateside. You did not have to serve in combat to qualify.

Priority is given to World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans, along with veterans facing advanced health concerns, but all veterans are eligible. There is a waiting list, so don’t put it off. Apply today and let the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight give you the welcome and recognition you have earned.

Learn more and complete the veteran application at:

https://eihonorflight.org/

The flight is completely free for veterans.

I'm not saying summer is half over... but the new 2026–2027 Friday Night Fish Fry magnets are here, and the first fish fry of the season is right around the corner!

The new magnets are now available at both the Tama American Legion and the Tama-Toledo VFW. Stop in and pick one up while you're there.

Stick it on your refrigerator, toolbox, or anywhere you'll see it so you never have to wonder, "Is it Fish Fry Friday?"

The magnet includes the complete 2026–2027 schedule:
• Tama American Legion – Second Friday of each month at 5:00 PM
• Tama-Toledo VFW – Fourth Friday of each month at 5:00 PM (November and December dates adjusted for the holidays.)

They're free while supplies last, so grab one for yourself and an extra for a friend or neighbor.

We'll see you at the Tama-Toledo VFW on on Friday, September 25, as we kick off another great season of Friday Night Fish Fries!

Welcome Home, Soldiers!

After months of dedicated service overseas, the final major group of Iowa National Guard Soldiers is returning home! 🎉

On Saturday, May 30, approximately 200 Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, will return to Iowa from deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, where they served alongside coalition and regional partners in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

The public is invited to join us in welcoming home 45 Soldiers during a ceremony at the Iowa National Guard Armory in Council Bluffs:

Iowa National Guard Armory, Council Bluffs
🕛 Ceremony Begins 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026
📍 2415 E Kanesville Blvd, Council Bluffs, IA 51503

A separate ceremony honoring 135 Soldiers will be held at the 132d Air Wing in Des Moines. Due to airport security requirements, the Des Moines ceremony is for friends and family only:

132d Air Wing, Des Moines
🕛 Ceremony Begins 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026
📍 3100 McKinley Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50321

As we celebrate the return of these Soldiers, we also keep the 5 Soldiers who are still supporting this mission with the Operational Support Airlift Command and the nearly 200 Iowa National Guard Airmen currently deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Epic Fury in our thoughts.

Welcome home, Soldiers. Iowa is proud of you. 🇺🇸

With Memorial Day approaching, we are reminded that each fold of a flag holds meaning. The final fold however, the one right before the flag is cradled and handed to a grieving family, says what words cannot.

We pause in silence for the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We honor their memory, their families, and the weight of every fold that tells their story.

We will never forget.
