"The origins of today's GFWC Environment Community Service Program can be traced to the early 1900s, even before the introduction of the GFWC Department of Forestry in 1906." To learn more, read the GFWC post from WHRC Wednesday.

It's WHRC Wednesday! Most of our members know that GFWC has been a stalwart supporter of environmental conservation for over a century: advocating for state and national parks, protecting animals, and supporting legislation to ensure our communities have safe water, soil, and air. But did you know that the bedrock of this work can be found in the forest?

The origins of today's GFWC Environment Community Service Program can be traced to the early 1900s, even before the introduction of the GFWC Department of Forestry in 1906. Our forestry efforts have included land preservation through both advocacy and direct action, as well as related concerns like forest fire prevention. In 2025, GFWC renewed its commitment to wildfire prevention and safety through the introduction of Resolution 160-130, which asks our member clubs to support education, awareness, emergency planning, and funding to prevent such disasters, and to help affected communities recover.

May is AMERICAN WETLANDS MONTH!

Contact, and request, a local water treatment facility in your area.

Many people view wetlands as “wastelands,” having few virtues. But it is now known that wetlands provide many useful services, from improving water quality to providing habitat for important fish and wildlife.
