(Big Bend AHEC) is a nationally recognized not-for-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors who are local health care professionals, educators, and community leaders who represent the health needs of the communities we serve. Big Bend AHEC is a member of the Florida AHEC Network, an affiliation of 10 locally governed AHEC’s and five AHEC Program Offices located at each of the Colleges

of Medicine in Florida. Our mission is to create and enhance community and academic partnerships to improve the health of rural and medically underserved populations. The Tobacco Free Florida AHEC Program offers FREE Group Quit classes in the community to help people quit tobacco for good. Join via Zoom on a phone, tablet, or computer, or call in by phone. Diabetes Support Is Here! 💙

Living with diabetes doesn’t have to mean managing it alone. Big Bend AHEC is excited to partner with Neighborhood Medical Center to offer a FREE 8-week Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP™)!

DEEP is an interactive, evidence-based program designed to help people with diabetes learn practical tools for healthier eating, physical activity, medication management, glucose monitoring, and more—all in a supportive small-group setting.

Are you a health professions student looking to grow as a future healthcare leader? The Florida AHEC Scholars Program offers a unique opportunity to enhance your education through interdisciplinary learning, mentorship, and community-based service experiences.
Program Benefits:
✅ $500 annual stipend
✅ Mentorship opportunities
✅ National recognition
✅ Community-based service learning
✅ Join a select group of only 150 students statewide
Eligible students in medicine, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, nurse midwifery, dentistry, psychology, pharmacy, and optometry are encouraged to apply.
