The Florida Youth Foundation was honored to be a sponsor at the 2026 Heroes in Public Safety Awards Banquet in celebration of DJJ’s outstanding honorees. We extend our congratulations to Human Trafficking Intervention Director Katherine Gomez, recipient of the Chris Connell Merit Award, for her incredible dedication to protecting Florida’s youth. This year she has played a vital role in multi-agency missing child recovery operations across the state, helping recover 250 youth. FYF is proud to support and recognize those making a lasting impact in the lives and safety of young people throughout Florida.

DJJ’s Office of Health Services in conjunction with the Florida Youth Foundation recently held an inaugural walkathon wellness challenge event at DJJ Headquarters. Employees participated in warm-up exercises and a 15-minute walk followed by the opportunity to receive resources from Florida Department of Health. This initiative not only promoted wellness but also helped to raise funds to support our youth and the incredible workforce that serves them each day. FYF and OHS would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to every participant for their support in making this event a success!

The Office of Prevention Services concluded the final session of its second Gaining Appreciation by Adjusting Perspective (G.A.A.P.) Academy with a graduation ceremony for participants. During the ceremony, youth had the opportunity to discuss their experience connecting with law enforcement officers and the impact of the G.A.A.P. Academy. All youth participants received a resource development stipend from the Florida Youth Foundation in support of this new avenue for youth to foster positive relationships with law enforcement.
