Thanks to all who joined us for another uplifting, informative, and FUN Speed Date Your Local Leaders last week! This popular event was more than sold out in advance, and guests packed the room perfectly. The space was filled with smiles, appreciation for our leaders, community connections, rave reviews…and none of our leaders got lost along their way from table to table between rounds (it’s harder than it sounds!).

The God Squad is tackling a looming existential frontier: Artificial Intelligence and its quiet, profound disruption of the spiritual world.

We talk constantly about how AI will reshape jobs, politics, and school. But data shows that algorithms are encroaching on our souls, too. People are already using large language models to draft prayers, synthesize complex scriptures, and seek automated ethical advice. Meanwhile, sociologists note a chilling trend: history shows that as societies become more reliant on high-tech automation, traditional religious adherence frequently drops.

Can an algorithm process genuine spiritual wisdom, or does relying on a machine erode the very essence of human discernment? What happens to faith when a chatbot becomes a primary spiritual authority for a new generation? If a machine can mimic compassion, empathy, and theology, what does it actually mean to be a human being created in the divine image?

Are periods of political instability inevitable? Or can they be predicted and prevented?

The USC Center for the Political Future invites you to a conversation and book talk with Evan Barker, author of "Nothing Left: Confessions of a Democratic Operative." This discussion will be moderated by Ken Broad, a member of the USC Center for the Political Future Board of Councilors and a Founding Member of Jackson Square Partners.

This conversation will take place on Wednesday, October 7 from 4-5:30PM in SOS B46. It will explore Evan's career as a Democratic campaign strategist, during which she raised tens of millions of dollars for candidates across the party's establishment and progressive wings, and what led her to break with the party she once helped build. The first 15 attendees will receive a signed copy of the book. Free pizza will be provided.

About "Nothing Left: Confessions of a Democratic Operative": Drawing on her years inside Democratic campaign politics, Evan Barker argues that hyper-progressive donors, radicalized staff, and an activist base captured the party from within, pulling it away from the working-class voters it once represented.
