Breathing a sigh of relief for those of us in the Panhandle.
Wednesday Sept 28, Evening Edition:
Here's the 5pm Graphic.
The motion is slower and a little more East of North.
The winds are still insane - 140mph near that core.
The pressure is up a bit, and that's encouraging.
The next several hours will continue to be very dangerous for SW FL. The rain will continue to pile up and cause flooding. The winds will continue to batter water logged trees and structures. It's going to be ugly from Cape Coral maybe all the way to Sun Center. And then the rain and wind will spread more to the North and East overnight and tomorrow towards Orlando and eventually Daytona.
Places that have lost power will be without power for a while - there's only so much the amazing linemen and women can do to try and restore power, especially with the dangerous conditions.
For the people living in those areas, patience is the most important thing now. Be safe, be careful, stay off the roads even once the rain stops. And be patient until crews can get to the impacted areas to start the clearing and cleaning and repairing.
For those that keep asking...
The Tallahassee Area will NOT get weather like you are seeing for SW FL. It will not be as rough here as we will see more of C FL and NE FL get. Unless something drastic changes with the path of the storm, and that is incredibly unlikely, the worst of the wind and rain will be moving NE. And as the storm itself weakens, so will the worst of the weather.
This does include areas along I-75 from Lake City and North into GA. We *might* get some wrap around showers, but even that looks unlikely with all the dry air in place and the storm's path moving NE. Breezy conditions, like we are experiencing today - sustained winds 10-20mph and gusts to 30mph are the most likely "impacts" we will feel up here. Sure, there can be some gusts maybe closer to 40mph - and that is Tropical Storm Strength - but those will be few and far between. Breezy, cloudy, cooler than normal. Those are the most likely conditions around here today and tomorrow and even Friday.
I'll post more thru the evening. There's going to be no shortage of material as we see how the wind and rain is beating up SW FL. I will have much more on here again tomorrow morning, dark and early.
For my local people, looks like we are going to dodge a bullet here.
For my SW FL people, hang in there. Be smart, be safe, listen to what your local leaders are saying, and just stay indoors and be patient. There will be plenty of time to clean up when things calm down. Patience is key now.
