RECRUITING FROM DOWNTOWN BLOUNTSTOWN TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD

On August 19, our recruitment team hit the streets — Calhoun CI's Sgt. Jeremy Summers, Liberty CI's Sgt. Tyler Johnson and Officer Makayla Cook, and Appalachee CI's Sgt. Branan Allen set up shop at the red light in downtown Blountstown to connect with the community.

The highlight of the day? A group of tourists from New Zealand, touring the country in a Jeep convoy, pulled in to grab one of our Correctional Officer ducks — and stuck around long enough for photos!

The team also spent time with current staff, talking retention efforts and the benefits of sticking with the department, and got a visit from PBA recruiter Alan Miller.

Whether it's a local corner or a convoy from across the globe — our recruiters are showing up to fill the vacancies that keep Florida's correctional facilities running strong.

Our Communications Division is deeply saddened to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Communications Officer Elizabeth “Liz” Ortega. Liz was the victim of a murder–suicide at her residence in Port St. Lucie this past weekend. She began her Emergency Communications career with the Greenacres Police Department in November of 2001 and has been a dedicated member of PBSO Emergency Communications since the merger in February of 2016. She was a respected and cherished part of our PBSO family, known for her kindness, compassion, and a warm smile that could brighten any room. Her son, Ralph Varela Jr., is a Fire Fighter with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Please stand with us in supporting our PBSO and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue family during this time of profound loss. Funeral arrangements are pending.

The West Central PBA and Sun Coast PBA proudly support Walter Price, Florida House District 55 Candidate!

President Nick Marolda and President Jon Vazquez met with candidate Price at the Sun Coast PBA and proudly endorsed him for the House of Representatives!

Walter Price is currently a Pasco County Fire Captain and is a proud and active First Responder in Pasco County. Walter has been actively fighting to improve the lives and benefits of first responders for years in Tallahassee and has decided to take the next step to serve in the House where he can make an even bigger impact.

Having an actual first responder fighting for first responders in Tallahassee is exactly what Pasco County needs — and it's a goal West Central and Sun Coast absolutely support!
