REfire is a nonprofit culinary training program for people with felony convictions, providing basic skills training, job experience and job placement support.

REfire is a culinary training program for people with felony convictions, providing basic skills training, job experience and job placement support. The curriculum is developed by professional chefs and culinary educators and will prepare graduates to fill a significant talent gap in Tallahassee’s retail food sector. A criminal conviction makes it extremely difficult for people with felony convic

tions to get jobs. But without a job, the recidivism rate skyrockets, meaning those with convictions reoffend and end up back in prison, putting a further burden on the economy and taxpayers. People with felony convictions need job skills training and the opportunity to re-enter the workforce and become skilled and productive members of their community. In addition to providing critical job skills training, REfire staff and students will operate a community-focused catering company that provides quality food products at reduced cost to schools, housing facilities, and elderly meal programs. Launched in October 2017, REfire is supported by local chefs, restaurant owners, lawyers, community organizations, career placement and social service agencies.

Closing out his journey with us is Mr. Iverson. So much joy, patience, and faith behind his eyes. His attitude is unwavering and he will never leave you without a profound piece of advice.

For his Chef-of-the-day he served Jambalaya with buttered corn and a dinner roll. For us and the residents of Family Promise of the Big Bend it's a meal but for him this marks a significant step into a new path. John has proven to be more resilient and ambitious than many people and we can't wait to see him flourish.
