Hello everyone,

We need to find a convenient time for a Beta Phi Mu Gamma Chapter discussion including installation of a new board and general revitalization of the chapter. Most of you are already Gamma Chapter members but a few have not yet officially joined. A reminder that the BPM invitation is open-ended and being involved with Beta Phi Mu, locally or nationally, is an excellent service opportunity. Feel free to pass this along to anyone else who might be interested.

The transition over the years from on-site degree programs to online has been difficult for the Gamma Chapter. This will be a good opportunity for us to share ideas and discuss moving forward.

We are in the process of catching up BPM Gamma Chapter membership notifications beginning with Spring 2017 through Fall 2019. The notifications are going out by FSU student email so please monitor these accounts over the next few weeks.

The goal is to revitalize Gamma and have an active and robust chapter once again.

The polls are open!

The Beta Phi Mu 2017 election is now underway! Please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BPM2017Election to elect a new Vice President/President Elect, a new Treasurer, and a new Director-at-large for our organization. Polls close at midnight, May 31st.

Beta Phi Mu at ALA

Beta Phi Mu's Annual Business Meeting and Member Reception will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 3:30-5:30PM at the Hyatt Regency Chicago (co-headquarters hotel on Wacker Ave., #1 on ALA map) in Columbus GH ( Ballroom Level, East Tower).

There will be a celebration of Dr. Blanche Woolls and the publication of the Beta Phi Mu Scholars Series title, School Librarianship: Past, Present, and Future, edited by Susan Alman, at this event.

There will also be an initiation ceremony held for new members elected by at-large programs, or for anyone who missed their chapter initiation.

Just a reminder that the deadline for applications for the 2017 Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships is March 15, 2017. These $3,000 awards are meant to help support a doctoral candidate in the dissertation-writing phase, who is working in Library and Information Science, Information Studies, Informatics, or a related field. Candidates in institutions with ALA, CILIP, or other approved accreditation are eligible. For more information, see:

National Beta Phi Mu is having an election and everyone is in encouraged to vote. They are electing a new Vice President/President Elect, a new Director-at-large, and there are some proposed by-laws changes to consider. The ballot will be available and open for voting until Friday, May 27th.

Secondly, if you are interested in joining us at the BPM reception in Orlando, please RSVP to BPM HQ at [email protected] . There will be an initiation ceremony held for new members-at-large, and there will also be some brief business, an election of new directors, and time to network and mingle with your BPM colleagues.
