Child Safety Week (June 1–7) is a reminder that safety isn’t a moment — it’s a mindset. 💛

With Florida’s newly passed water safety legislation shining a spotlight on drowning prevention and swim safety, there’s no better time to prioritize safe environments for children at home, at school, and in our communities.

At Head Start, safety is part of everything we do — from active supervision to helping families build safe everyday routines.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their courage and sacrifice are the reason we are able to live, learn, and gather in freedom today. We hold their families close in gratitude and reflection.

At Head Start, we’re also reminded of the importance of community—supporting children and families with care, stability, and opportunity is one small way we honor the freedoms they helped protect.

May we never forget the cost of that freedom, and may we continue to honor it in how we serve one another each day.

In Florida, Head Start educators play a vital role in helping children and families move confidently from preschool to kindergarten. Through intentional, evidence-based practices, they help bridge the gap by building relationships, sharing information, and aligning with local elementary schools.

From classroom visits and readiness packets to family nights and data sharing with receiving schools, these efforts ensure children feel prepared—and families feel supported—every step of the way.

Because when children know what to expect, when families are engaged, and when educators work together, the transition to kindergarten becomes a moment of confidence, not uncertainty 💙

A Head Start story worth celebrating 💙

“My family has been in Florida for five years, and Early Head Start changed everything for us.” — Ileanisse Guzman

As we celebrate Head Start’s birthday on May 18, we’re honoring stories like Ileanisse’s—stories of families finding support, children gaining access to early education, and parents stepping confidently into their role as their child’s first teacher.

From home visits and learning support to joyful socialization days and lifelong friendships, Early Head Start helped this family grow, learn, and thrive together.
Head Start doesn’t just prepare children for school—it strengthens families for life ✨

This National Children’s Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that healthy development starts early—and the small, everyday moments matter most.

Children everywhere are counting on us to help them grow strong, confident, and emotionally supported.

If you’re caring for a child ages 5 and under, here are simple ways to nurture their mental health and well-being:

• Schedule their next well-child check-up
• Introduce new, healthy foods in fun and engaging ways
• Get moving together—dance, play, or explore outside
• Cook a simple, balanced meal as a family
• Spend time outdoors and enjoy fresh air
• Help them name their feelings and check in with their body

These small steps help build big foundations for lifelong health.
