Swab to Save a Life
April 20, 2026: 5:00 - 7:00 PM

Join FSU-Chabad in a community effort to save a life.

Daphne, a Jewish mother, wife of 42 years, mother of three, and grandmother of four, has been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. Her only hope for survival is a stem cell transplant. Despite searching a worldwide registry of over 45 million donors, no match has been found.

Our tradition teaches that “whoever saves a single life, it is as if they saved an entire world” (Mishnah Sanhedrin 4:5). The value of pikuach nefesh, the responsibility to preserve life, calls on each of us to act when we can.

At this event, you can take a simple step that could help save a life. The process is quick, painless, and takes just a minute, a simple cheek swab adds you to the international registry, where you could be the match for Daphne or for another patient in need.

In addition, we will be:
Creating cards for patients in long-term hospital stays
Collecting new, sealed toys to bring comfort and joy to children in the hospital
Every action matters. Every registration increases the chances of finding a match.

Important Note on Eligibility:
The ideal age range for stem cell donors is 18–35, as they are most likely to be selected as matches for patients like Daphne. However, individuals in good health up to age 60 are still eligible to join the registry. Those above 35 can also make a meaningful impact by encouraging younger family members to get swabbed or by supporting Daphne’s donor circle.

Please join us as we present our next film in the 2024 Jewish film series Ain’t No Back on a Merry Go Round scheduled for Sunday October 20 at the Challenger IMAX. (Please note the additional times during the weekend as well).
For almost 60 years, Glen Echo Amusement Park was the wholesome, beloved playground of white metropolitan Washington. Every summer, tens of thousands enjoyed its Crystal Pool, wooden rollercoaster, Spanish Ballroom, and Tunnel of Love. But the Black children living nearby could only gawk from the road. In June of 1960, three shocking, unprecedented events happened at “idyllic” Glen Echo Amusement Park: Howard University students arrived at the Park and sat down on the carousel. White, middle-aged neighbors, largely Jewish, joined the protests and the American N**i party showed up. Ain’t No Back on a Merry Go Round is the forgotten story of how those three events shook metropolitan Washington, forced sides, changed lives, and ignited sparks that flew out across the Civil Rights Movement for years to come.
