Last week, the State Corrections PBA made the rounds at the State Capitol working toward well-deserved pay increases for correctional officers, ISS officers, and probation officers. We had the opportunity to speak with several key members involved in the budget process and remind them of the vital role our members play in the law enforcement community.
We also conducted interviews with various media outlets to help bring attention to these important issues. Unfortunately, the Legislature left Friday without reaching a budget deal. We will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as soon as an agreement is reached.
Representing the State Corrections PBA were President Jim Baiardi, Senior Vice President Danny Witt, and Region IV Director Andrew Reese.

Despite the bad weather, the PBA was proud to take part in Corrections Week at Jackson CI. We were honored to sponsor beverages from Outlaw Ice, and both on-duty and off-duty staff really enjoyed the drinks.

The administration at Jackson CI also provided meals for the staff, which was greatly appreciated. Even with the weather conditions, we had a great time visiting with the officers at Jackson CI. The PBA was truly honored to be there and support such a great event and the hardworking men and women who serve every day.

As National Police Week 2026 begins, observed May 10–16, we honor the service and sacrifice of all law enforcement professionals, including correctional officers who play a critical role in public safety and the criminal justice system.

National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. Since then, it has become a time to recognize the dedication of law enforcement officers across the country and remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Many correctional associations and agencies also take part in National Police Week because correctional officers are an important part of the law enforcement community. Your professionalism, strength, and commitment are appreciated every day.

Thank you for your service, dedication, and sacrifice.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to Chase Brannan for taking the time to recognize Corrections Week and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our state correctional officers. Your support means a great deal to the men and women who work tirelessly to keep our institutions safe and secure every day. Florida’s correctional officers need leaders who understand and appreciate their service, and I truly believe you will be a friend to correctional officers in the Florida House. Thank you again for your support!

The PBA was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former PBA Board Member and Representative, Colin Eugene Halle.

Colin devoted nearly four decades of his life to the Department of Corrections, earning the respect of all who had the privilege to work alongside him. He also served as a PBA representative for more than 20 years and retired from the FDC as a Major in 2006.

His dedication and commitment helped shape a better future for correctional officers, and some of the benefits seen today are a direct reflection of his years of service and advocacy.

We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will not be forgotten.
