Florida PBA Stands Strong with Our Members Following the Hurricane

In the aftermath of the devastating hurricane that struck Florida’s Panhandle, State Corrections PBA President Jim Baiardi and Senior Vice President Danny Witt, with the assistance and cooperation of FDC leadership, were able to deliver much-needed supplies to correctional officers and staff affected by the storm.

We recognize that these supplies will not solve every challenge our members and their families are facing, but we sincerely hope they will help make the road to recovery a little easier.

Our correctional officers are always there when the public needs them, even during the most difficult times. Now, it is our turn to be there for them.

The Florida PBA is more than just an organization. We are a family, and families stand together.

In good times and bad, the Florida PBA will always stand behind our members.

Stay strong, stay safe, and know that your PBA stands with you every step of the way.

Last week, the State Corrections PBA was proud to attend the Employee Benefits Event at Marion Correctional Institution.

Correctional officers from Marion CI, Lowell CI, and the Florida Women’s Reception Center attended, and the event was a great success. Representing the PBA were State Corrections PBA President Jim Baiardi, Senior Vice President Danny Witt, and Field Representative David Tuck.

Our team had the opportunity to speak with officers, answer questions, hand out PBA items and snacks, and most importantly, welcome several new members who signed up to join the PBA.

We would also like to thank the staff who worked hard to organize and put together such a successful event. Your efforts were greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, and thank you to the officers who continue to serve and protect Florida every day.

September 13, 2026, was the 55th anniversary of the end of the Attica uprising. One of the darkest days in the history of American corrections—the 1971 uprising at Attica Correctional Facility in New York. This tragic event, which claimed the lives of 10 Correction Officers and civilians, is a reminder of the daily dangers correctional officers and correctional professionals face daily.
For correctional officers, law makers, and the public, the events at Attica serve as a powerful reminder of the dangers inherent in our job. Every day, correctional officers walk into situations that are unpredictable, sometimes volatile, and always dangerous.
The lives lost at Attica must never be forgotten, and neither should the lessons learned-correctional officer safety, proper staffing, training, communication, and preparedness must always remain a priority.

Remembering Patriot Day — 25 Years Later

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we honor and remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on a day that forever changed our nation.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel and countless others who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape.

Often overlooked is the fact that correctional officers from several departments also answered the call and assisted in the aftermath of the attacks.

Today, we honor every life lost, every family forever changed, and every first responder and public safety professional who answered the call.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage, honor their sacrifice and renew our promise:

Never Forget.

Labor Day pays tribute to the immense contributions and achievements of American workers. Since becoming a federal holiday in 1894, it has stood as a reminder of the strength and dedication of the workforce that keeps our nation moving forward.

This weekend, the State Corrections PBA recognize Florida’s State Correctional Officers and our Florida PBA members for your tireless commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice. Your service inside our correctional institutions is vital to public safety, and we thank you for the difficult and often dangerous work you perform every day.

On this Labor Day weekend, we honor you and your families for the strength, courage, and dedication you bring to our profession. From all of us at the Florida PBA, we wish you a safe and Happy Labor Day!
