Hospital leaders and legislators joined FHA’s Legislative Roundtable in Fort Lauderdale today at the Tower Club - Fort Lauderdale . Attendees explored strategies for reducing administrative burdens, maintaining a balanced law that protects patients while mitigating excessive litigation and supporting essential healthcare services.

Hospitals use this day to reaffirm their commitment to fostering a culture of workplace safety, and to shine a light on the work done year-round to build and maintain a safe environment for employees and patients alike.

FHA's Hospitals United Against Workplace Violence initiative further demonstrates this commitment. Patient safety depends upon readiness – and cyber disruptions can happen at any time.

Kim Streit, Senior Vice President of FHA moderated a panel today at the 2026 FHA Quality & Patient Safety Conference focused on how hospitals can patients and maintain delivery during cyber disruptions. Panelists Scott Arnold of Tampa General Hospital, Phyllis Baum of UF Health and Ryan Smith of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare - TMH discussed the critical role of teamwork, adaptability and robust coordination in responding to these incidents. Their insights also demonstrated how sound protocols can sustain operations and support uninterrupted, around-the-clock care.

The conversation reinforced the importance of preparedness, resilient systems, and a strong culture of safety to protect the patients and communities Florida hospitals serve.
