Recently, FHA sent letters to the Florida Congressional delegation urging swift passage of patient-friendly, bipartisan legislation to hold Medicare Advantage plans accountable for the care they are contractually obligated to provide.

Thousands of patients are stuck in hospital beds waiting for authorizations from their Medicare plans. A stroke patient who needs access to rehabilitation is losing precious recovery time waiting for their insurance company to agree with their physician’s orders.

The FHA-supported bills would reduce harmful prior authorization delays, reduce administrative burden on clinicians, and ensure hospitals are paid promptly for the care they provide. According to Florida Health CHARTS data, about 132 of every 100,000 women in Florida are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

Every patient deserves access to timely, compassionate cancer care when they need it. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder of the importance of education, early detection and comprehensive care. Hospitals across the Sunshine State are promoting breast cancer awareness by expanding access to screening through efforts such as Baptist Health Mobile Mammography and supporting patients and families to help improve outcomes and provide hope for those affected.

Physician supply in Florida is projected to meet only 77% of the projected need by 2035. Runaway medical liability verdicts and rising malpractice costs can make it more difficult for physicians to practice in Florida, potentially limiting access to timely care and placing additional strain on the state’s healthcare workforce.
