The Capital Area Section is in North Florida, and includes eleven counties: Jackson, Calhoun, Gulf, Gadsden, Liberty, Franklin, Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, and Taylor. The Capital Area Section of APA Florida is composed of local planners, architects, city, county, and state officials, and others interested in the planning profession. We encourage to you to join our section membership if you

live or work in the Capital Area. There are number of ways to become involved with the Capital Area Section through volunteering, participating in events and meetings, and sponsoring specific Section activities with time and resources. Volunteers are needed to chair and coordinate special events during the year. Sponsors in the past have provided items like space for continuing education and AICP study groups. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring the Section, please contact Artie White at [email protected]. If you're not a member of the FAPA Chapter or Capital Area Section, consider joining. The APA Florida Capital Area Section is exploring a new professional development series that combines expert presentations, field observation, and peer discussion through our proposed Talk/Walk format. As we begin planning our first event focused on parking reform and parking management, we'd love your input.

We're looking for examples of innovative parking management, creative parking design, and real-world parking policy success stories. Think Donald Shoup-worthy examples right here in our communities 👀🅿️

Have you seen a great example of:
• Reduced or eliminated parking minimums?
• Shared parking arrangements?
• Structured parking done well?
• Underutilized parking lots ripe for redevelopment?
• Downtown parking management strategies?
• Angled parking conversions or other creative solutions?

What sites should planners visit to see parking policy in action?

Registration is open for a Florida Planning and Zoning Association workshop, to be held at Florida State University on February 19, 2026.

The program will include luncheon speaker, Mike Alfano, Director of City and County Planning for Tallahassee–Leon County, followed by two back-to-back workshop sessions on School Facilities Planning and Historic Preservation. An evening reception will conclude the event.
