“Senator Brodeur has been longtime champion for the Farmers Feeding Florida program, understanding the power of our food banks' collective reach and collaboration with the agriculture industry. We appreciate his dedication helping us connect Florida’s farmers and ranchers with the food banks supporting families every day, like Second Harvest. When families, farmers, and communities all benefit, Florida benefits.”
Robin Safley, CEO of Feeding Florida

What happens when Florida farmers have surplus food and Florida families need it? Farmers Feeding Florida helps connect the two!

When farmers, processors, food banks and state leaders work together, more Florida-grown food can make it from farm to family.

What does that impact look like?
🥛 Rescued milk in the summer months and Spring Break so it stays in Florida and goes to kids facing hunger
🥩 Young ranchers provided Florida-raised beef to small communities from youth fair steers
🍉 Recovered 1.5 million pounds of surplus watermelons when the seasonal market hit oversupply
🦪 Fresh Florida clams recovered when retail markets failed
🥚 Saved over 300,000 eggs from becoming stranded inventory

“Florida’s peanut growers are an essential part of our state’s agricultural community, and we are deeply grateful for their partnership,” said Robin Safley, Executive Director of Feeding Florida. “Thanks to their commitment, and the Commissioner’s investment in expanding Farmers Feeding Florida, we’re able to provide a nutritious, shelf-stable source of protein that families can rely on year-round.”

Simpson and Farmers Feed Florida officials studied peanut butter processing facilities that deliver goods to ease food insecurity.

Thanks to Commissioner Wilton Simpson who recently joined us to meet with Florida peanut growers and processors. We saw firsthand how the state’s peanut industry is helping nourish families through Farmers Feeding Florida.

Our tours highlighted the journey of a Florida-grown peanut—from the field to processing and, ultimately, to food banks across the state.

Thanks to the partnership between Florida’s peanut growers, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Feeding Florida, the program distributed more than 1.3 million jars of peanut butter to Florida food banks this past fiscal year.

Farmers Feeding Florida distributed more than 1.3 million jars of peanut butter to Florida food banks this past fiscal year. That's not an accident. It's thanks to Commissioner Simpson, state leadership, our farmers, and our producer partners. And it's because peanut butter is incredibly important to our food banks and the families they serve. It was a pleasure to have a peanut day with the Commissioner and the FDACS team. Together, we are ALL feeding Florida!

Every harvest tells a story of dedication, resilience, and countless hours of hard work—something Tony DiMare hopes more people have the chance to see firsthand.

This month's Farmer Spotlight, Tony, shared that many people don't realize everything that goes into growing the fresh fruits and vegetables they enjoy. From labor and environmental stewardship to food safety and the unpredictable nature of farming, every crop represents months of planning and care before it ever reaches the table.

Tony said, "The general public should visit a farming operation to fully realize the work that goes into producing and harvesting the fruits and vegetables that we produce. I believe they would no doubt have a much better understanding and appreciation for the American farmer."

That same commitment to feeding communities is what makes The DiMare Company's partnership with Farmers Feeding Florida so meaningful.

"To know that the product we produced is going to families and the community in need is a very gratifying feeling," Tony shared. "The DiMare Company is proud to play a role in this very deserving program."

Another quarter of turning Florida-grown abundance into food for families across our state. 💚

Through Farmers Feeding Florida, our team and agricultural partners helped recover more than 22.7 million pounds of Florida food in Quarter 4, including dairy, fresh produce, peanut butter, seafood, and beef. That means millions of pounds of nutritious foods that could have gone to waste instead made its way through our nine food banks and into communities across Florida.

We’re grateful to the farmers, ranchers, processors, food banks and pantries who make this work possible. Together, we’re keeping good Florida food moving from farms and producers to the neighbors who need it most.
