♻️ THANK YOU, TALLAHASSEE! OUR PILOT V**E PEN COLLECTION EVENT MADE A BIG IMPACT. ♻️

From April 10–27, community members across Tallahassee participated in our Pilot V**e Pen Collection Event and helped make the initiative a success!

Event results included:

✅ 103 residents participated
✅ 198 v**e pens and devices collected
✅ Approximately 30.6 pounds of v**e waste diverted from improper disposal

Improperly discarded v**e devices can pose serious environmental and safety concerns due to the lithium-ion batteries, ni****ne residue, plastics, and electronic components they contain.

Thank you to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection
and industry partners Pluto Smoke Shop and ARXG for their partnership and dedication to this cause.

The information and feedback collected during this pilot program will help guide future v**e and e-waste recycling and collection opportunities throughout Florida.

Thank you to everyone who helped support safer disposal practices and a cleaner environment for our community! 🌎

📚♻️ Books out. Landfills spared.

We're thrilled to share that the 2026 Book Collection and Recycling Program has officially wrapped up — and the results speak for themselves. From April 11–27, our partnership with The Florida Bar, the City of Tallahassee, Florida State University, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection helped collect 13,957 pounds of outdated legal books and volumes, keeping them out of landfills and on the right path.

Since 2000, this program has now recycled a grand total of 487,846 pounds of books. That's the power of community and collaboration in action. 💚

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this another successful year!

169 v**e pens and counting. 🙌

As part of our partnership with Pluto Smoke Shop, we hosted a v**e pen collection event to help keep these devices out of landfills and off the streets. The response from our community was incredible.

V**e pens contain lithium batteries, heavy metals, and plastics that can cause serious harm when improperly disposed of — which is exactly why events like this matter.

Thank you to everyone who participated. This is what community-driven sustainability looks like in action. 💚

Operation Medicine Cabinet Collects 504 Pounds of Expired
and Unwanted Drugs for Proper Disposal

Tallahassee, Florida—On Saturday, April 25th, the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Costco, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s Institute of Public Health, Florida State University’s Institute of Science and Public Affairs (ISPA), and iHeartMedia (WTNT 94.9, WFLA 100.7), held an Operation Medicine Cabinet event for the collection of unwanted or unneeded medications (both over the counter and prescription).

During the event, 113 Tallahassee/Leon County participants brought in 504 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications.
These collection events provide Tallahassee/Leon County citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
