This week, 17 community cats were spayed and neutered at the always amazing Tally Spay

That means 17 cats who will no longer contribute to the cycle of unwanted litters, helping create a healthier future for both cats and our community.

One of those cats, Gracie, reminded us that spay surgery can be lifesaving in more ways than one.

When she arrived for what we thought would be a routine spay, they discovered she was suffering from pyometra, a severe infection of the uterus. Pyometra causes the uterus to fill with pus and bacteria, and without emergency surgery, it can lead to sepsis, organ failure, and death.

Because Gracie was spayed when she was, her infected uterus was removed before the infection could take her life.

The best part? She’s already feeling so much better 💜

Spaying and neutering doesn’t just prevent kittens. Sometimes, it saves the life of the cat already in front of us.

Our Snip & Chip June Promotion was a success! To help keep dogs and cats out of the shelter, we are proud to announce that we microchipped 334 animals and completed 231 spay/neuter surgeries - all for FREE during this promotion! The microchips were covered through our Animal Shelter Foundation and the surgeries were covered through a grant from Florida Animal Friend. While the promotion has ended, you can still make an appointment for AFFORDABLE spay/neuter surgery and a microchip.

July 10th is National Kitten Day! 🐱💛

Today we celebrate all of the cuteness, cuddles, and joy kittens bring into our lives!

While we all know how easily kittens affect our hearts, many of them struggle to find loving homes. Kittens are regularly abandoned outdoors or at shelters, and many grow up as strays. Female cats can start reproducing as early as 4 months of age and can have 420,000 kittens in their lifetime. Spaying and neutering cats makes an enormous impact on decreasing litter sizes and improving the health of stray populations.

This , we encourage you to spay and neuter your cats and if you are considering bringing a purr-fect furry friend into your home, adopt from a shelter!
