, Three vears ago, we did a lot of initiatives and events, but I want to go back to the memories of the vegetable distribution initiative we did, and I remember it was a busy day of achievement to help displaced families. Thanks to your cooperation and generous contributions, we succeeded in achieving a very important step. Today we would like to remind vou of this impact that vou have made with vour own hands to confirm that our presence and continuation on the ground to serve our people in Gaza depends entirely on your continuous and uninterrupted support.
What did we do together in that initiative ?

Our team, led by Jamal, worked alongside local farmers and traders to prepare and distribute large packages of vegetables and fruits (package weight 15 kg) that are enough for the family for 5 davs.
• Number of beneficiarv families: more than 60 families.
• Package contents: (potatoes, avocado, lemon, banana, apple, eggplant, onion, cucumber, tomato, green pepper, and zucchini).
Total cost: $2,900, covered entirely by your donations. The joy was indescribable in the eyes of the people as they found what to feed their children under these harsh conditions.

The current situation: Suffering continues and support is receding. We know that times are difficult for everyone everywhere, but we appeal to your living consciences not to forget us. Genocide and aggression have never stopped, and the occupation continues to destrov all the elements of life. The maiority of people here live in tents or on the ruins of their destroved homes, and lack the most basic elements of human life. With the absence of universal free aid, the risk of hunger remains a threat, to evervone without exception. Unfortunatelv, we have recently seen a sharp decline in donations and support, which directly affects our abilitv to move and help families.

We are very grateful for every hand that has extended with good, and we have plans and events that we seek to implement to strengthen people's resilience, but we will not be able to take a single step without you.
Your continued support = our continued giving. 🕊🍉🇵🇸

ADVOCACY ALERT: Support COCA | Send, Attend, & Spread the Word

The Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) is facing a proposed 100% loss of County funding and transfer of its grant programs and services to the Leon County Division of Tourism. With this change comes an immediate transfer of the FY27 grant programs and its $2M in grant funds solely to the Division of Tourism, followed by a 33% cut in TDT grants funding for arts organizations in FY28 for its year-around programs that drive tourism and economic development, with further reductions possible in future rounds. It eliminates long-standing programs and support for cultural organizations, artists & arts education & general public that our visitors & residents rely on.

For over 40 years, Leon County has partnered with and supported arts & culture through the designated arts agency. This change threatens the viability of cultural organizations & COCA, and will negatively impact arts & culture in the Capital City and its region.

The Leon County Commission can stop this.

On agenda item #13, ask Leon County commissioners to vote for Option #2, to extend its current contract for one year and allow COCA to work with the County on a long-term arrangement.

Take Action
1. Email or Call Your Commissioner
Urge them to support Agenda Item #13, Option 2, which would extend COCA’s current contract for one year and allow time to develop a long-term plan.

2. Attend the Meeting
Showing up in person makes a powerful impact. If you are able and willing to attend, please reply to this post and let us know - we are working to coordinate a strong showing of support. The meetings are live-streamed and recorded.

3. Spread the Word
Share this message with your networks, post on social media, and personally invite others to attend. Direct outreach -calls, texts, and one-on-one asks - can make all the difference.

4. Join the Information Session
COCA will host an informational Zoom meeting if you wish to learn more information on Friday, May 8, at 1 PM

Learn more by visiting the link in the comments. And please feel free to reach out to any COCA staff or our Executive Director, Kathleen Spehar, with any questions you may have at [email protected] or at 850-224-2500 x2

Thank you for supporting COCA!

We have a big announcement… This first Friday… Will be our last… Here in the square… Because we will be moving to our own standalone building off of Pensacola Street!

We have heard you and we are ready to meet the needs of our community! We will have two fully accessible, gender neutral restrooms. Accessible entrance and accessible parking. A paved, lit lot! A larger theater. And room to grow our ever popular retail section. We heard you want to see physical media, more weird live events, and more first run theatrical releases… And we’re here to meet those needs.

Our time in the square has meant so much to us. It has truly served its purpose, being an incubator to this unique business… allowing us to chase something bigger!

Tomorrow (April 30th) is your last day to rent at this location. We will be screening movies until May 30th. June 6th will be our first screening in the new location. In the mean time, come by and soak in some time at the current location, make a donation to the move and come get some of Tallahassee’s best popcorn!

Keep your eyes peeled for calendar posts! We couldn’t have done this without your support. Thank you!
