The Dianne Williams-Cox affiliated PAC “Tallahassee United” has crossed the line, and our campaign has filed a cease and desist letter with intent to sue for defamation.
Over the past couple of weeks, Tallahassee United has sent mailers to thousands of voters across our city that claim Dot Inman-Johnson was “caught accepting cash for votes” and “run out of office after allegations of abuse.”
These statements are 100% false: Dot has never been charged with a crime or arrested in her life and has been a law-abiding resident of Tallahassee for 55 years, serving honorably as the first-ever Black woman elected as Tallahassee Mayor and City Commissioner.
The mailers also state “It’s all true! Check the verified facts” and cites a Tallahassee Democrat article from April 20, 1990, which neither states or infers either statement to be true.
Here are the parties involved that will be served starting today, Monday, October 12:
Tallahassee United, Inc.
Remera Jones-Haynes, Chair and Treasurer
Aeon West, President
Auryndette West, Vice President
Bernadette Amos, Secretary
Pursuant to Florida Statutes Section 770.01, if all parties involved do not retract and correct these statements within 5 days from the service of the notice – in a manner that reaches substantially the same audience as the original defamatory flyers – our attorneys with Marie A. Mattox, P.A. will file a lawsuit that includes defamation per se, defamation by implication, conspiracy to commit defamation as well as seek full compensatory and punitive damages to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Our campaign will not quietly stand by and let a desperate politician and her PAC, who are willing to do anything to win an election, lie in an attempt to ruin the reputation of one of Tallahassee’s most decorated and honorable leaders.
