According to a report from the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce, 72% of all U.S. jobs will require at least some postsecondary education and/or training by 2031--less than five years from now. Our program helps Florida's students with disabilities find their dream careers and connects these bright young individuals to colleges, universities, vocational schools and other opportunities after graduation. This gives our High School High Tech alumni a chance to develop skills that make them not only employable, but also competitive in today's and tomorrow's job markets.

"High School High Tech made me more sure of what I wanted to do ... I can definitely now see myself being a teacher and helping other children with disabilities."

Now a sophomore at the University of West Florida, Kiersten McCans's time in the Wakulla County program inspired her decision to pursue a career as a teacher of students with disabilities like her. Okaloosa County's students had a full day of workforce education at the Goodwill Gulf Coast Retail Store and Opportunity Center. Students learned about the store's back-end operations and practiced collaborative skills.

Last but certainly not least in our series celebrating the 34 RISE Scholarship recipients, meet Alyssa, Alanna, Jackson and Brayden! These recent graduates from Nassau and Taylor counties have their sights set on careers in forensics, veterinary medicine and skilled trades. We are excited to see what they accomplish in their next steps and beyond.

The Able Trust is gathering feedback for Florida's Comprehensive Statewide Needs Assessment to help the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation identify the employment-related needs, challenges, and barriers experienced by individuals with disabilities across Florida. As part of the needs assessment, we are conducting surveys of several stakeholder groups, including people with disabilities and caregivers of individuals with disabilities who are not currently receiving VR services.
