Please join us in welcoming three new members to the Florida Alliance to End Human Trafficking Board of Directors!

We are pleased to welcome Ignacio M. Alvarez, Stephen K. Talpins and Yesenia Sanchez, who bring decades of experience and leadership across law enforcement, criminal justice, business and public health.

Ignacio M. Alvarez – Founder and Managing Partner of ALGO Law Firm and retired Miami-Dade Police Major with 25 years of law enforcement experience.

Stephen K. Talpins – Chief Assistant State Attorney for Miami-Dade County, nationally recognized criminal justice leader.

Yesenia Sanchez – Cigna Market President for South Florida and the Caribbean, bringing extensive business leadership and public health experience.

All three are appointees of the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.

Their expertise will help strengthen our efforts to prevent human trafficking, expand awareness and training, and build partnerships that protect vulnerable individuals and support survivors across Florida.

We look forward to the impact they will make as we continue working toward a Florida free from human trafficking.

October is National Crime Prevention Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a reminder that awareness and prevention can help keep our communities safe.

Domestic violence and human trafficking are distinct forms of abuse, but vulnerabilities can overlap. Recognizing the signs and responding with compassion and a trauma-informed approach can help connect individuals to the right support.

Healing from human trafficking is not a single event—it is a complex, ongoing process. Survivors need support that is consistent, informed, and grounded in trauma-informed practices.

Education is an important part of that support. When we better understand human trafficking, its dynamics, and its impact, we are better prepared to recognize concerns, respond appropriately, and support survivors without causing further harm.

Registration is open for the 2026 Human Trafficking Summit, a free, virtual event bringing together professionals and community members from across Florida to learn, connect and strengthen efforts to prevent trafficking and protect those who are vulnerable.

The Florida Alliance to End Human Trafficking is honored to receive a $1 million donation from Starbucks to expand statewide efforts to prevent, identify and combat human trafficking across Florida.

This generous donation will support new grants for law enforcement and service providers, statewide training, technology resources and public awareness efforts to help more Floridians recognize the signs and report suspected trafficking.

“This extraordinary investment from Starbucks will help us move from awareness to action in communities across Florida,” said Erin Collins, Executive Director of the Florida Alliance to End Human Trafficking.
