Throwback Thursday- summer activities are a wrap at Camp Sevenstar! Wow, what a fun and learning experience this summer was! 🌞

The temperatures soared all summer but the campers spirits remained high! 🌡 Living within our ecosystem is part of the traditional lifeways. 🌳 Memories were made and community connectiveness was abundant! Now we are getting ready for the fall!

🧡 Every Child Matters. Since 1983, the American Indian Resource Center, Inc. - AIRC has been dedicated to empowering Native students and community members through education, language immersion, and all-around care.

As we stand in solidarity with the Orange Shirt Movement. We wear orange to honor the survivors of Indian boarding schools and remember the children who never made it home.

While Orange Shirt Day reminds the world of this history, the AIRC acts on this truth every day. By revitalizing our languages, supporting our youth, and reclaiming our traditions, we are building a future where every Native child is seen, valued, and empowered to succeed. 🧡

On Friday, Sept. 25, the AIRC staff, board members, and families gathered at Egan Camp and Retreat Center for our first annual Staff Development/Family Day Picnic! ☀️🍂

From simple icebreakers to some hilariously competitive chair volleyball, we shared endless laughs and loved getting to know each other's families better. As one staffer put it on the ride home: “It reminded us of the family reunions we used to have as kids.”

With 7 programs and Camp Sevenstar all represented, Friday truly felt like a massive family reunion. We couldn't have asked for better weather for food, fun, and fellowship.

Wado to everyone who contributed and came out! ❤️ Every program came together to make this a day to remember.

Staff from our Camp Sevenstar, Tribal Cherokee Ecological Knowledge and Little Cherokee Seeds all traveled to Tulsa this week to attend, The Indigenous Food Ways & Health Grantee Meeting sponsored by Oklahoma State University and was hosted at The Gathering Place.

On Wednesday they toured the Osage Nation Heartland farms where they had a delicious meal consisting of bison and many vegetables grown at the farm. They toured the Tall Grass Prairie where they were able to see their relatives, the buffalo.

This morning they enjoyed breakfast and attended a meeting at The Gathering Place Boathouse.

As the meeting wraps up tomorrow, we are confident that the knowledge shared and relationships built this week will guide us in sustaining and growing our vital work at Camp Sevenstar.
