Dear OK2A friends,
Our next Cherokee County meeting is next week Tuesday, December 2, from 6:00-7:30PM at Hillside Church in Tahlequah. Our guest speaker is Representative JJ Humphrey, who has been a stalwart friend of OK2A in the Oklahoma House of Representatives and is a candidate for Lt. Governor in next year’s election.
State candidates
The OK2A website (oks2a.org) has a list of candidates for the 2026 Oklahoma elections including those for governor, Lt. governor, several Oklahoma house and senate seats and other offices. The candidates for governor are and their OK2A survey grades are:
Mike Massei (A) Has spoken to our Cherokee County group
Jake Merrick (A) Has spoken to our Cherokee County group
Charles McCall (A) Scheduled to speak to us in February
Chip Keating (A)
Kenneth Surgell (D)
Lisa Mitchell Hayne

OK2A Governor candidates forum
The top five candidates in bold above attended the OK2A candidates forum in Oklahoma City last Tuesday, November 18. I was able to attend along with 2-300 others. Each candidate summarized his position on various topics such as 2A rights, guns at polling places, drivers licenses for illegal aliens, the Bible in school history classes, English language requirement for truck drivers, vaccinations, abortion, etc. It was hard to discriminate between the candidates because they all largely agreed with OK2A's positions. Each clearly stated his belief in God and respect for Christian values. It seemed obvious that the candidates knew the preferred answer to each question for this audience. Use this link to see a video of the forum. It was about 2 hours long.
The bottom three candidates listed above did not attend, though invited. Lisa Hayne had a schedule conflict. Getner Drummond finally replied to Don Spencer (OK2A president) that day that he couldn’t make it, and Cyndi Munson didn’t reply.
The OK2A website shows the candidates for Lt. governor as:
Cindy Byrd
Darrell Weaver
JJ Humprehy (our speaker next week)
Victor Flores (previously spoke to our group)
We’re also reminded that OK2A is opposed to State Question 836, which we'll vote on next year. It proposes changing our elections to use "jungle primaries," which is a system favored by Democrats in other states, like California, to give them more power.
Other information is on the OK2A page. In addition, you can see videos of recent OK2A OKC meeting on Don Spencer’s OK2A YouTube channel, including a summary of upcoming legislation.
I hope to see you next Tuesday at Hillside Church.
