Did you know that Oklahoma has a law that allows you to be a lifesaver without fear?

So far this year, Cherokee County has seen 10 tragic overdose fatalities. (according to ODMAPS)
Many overdose deaths happen because people are too scared of legal trouble to call 911.

Oklahoma's Good Samaritan Law removes that fear. It protects BOTH the person calling for help and the person overdosing from being prosecuted for holding small amounts of drugs.

The rules are simple: Call, give your name, stay with them, and cooperate with help.

We can all be the Samaritan our community needs. Let’s lower that number together. 🤝

In Cherokee County, a new initiative is working to simplify one of the most difficult steps in recovery: asking for help.

05/10/2026

With the help of an incredible partnership between Marcus C. Buchanan and the Cherokee County Health Services Council, we were able to continue our efforts to keep life-saving resources in the hands of those who need them most 💙

We recently exchanged expired Narcan at the Pryor Police Department and Pryor Fire Department—something we’ve worked hard to support across our community—ensuring our first responders stay equipped and ready.

➡️ 29 officers received 2 boxes each
➡️ 4 fire trucks were stocked with 2 boxes each

We believe real impact happens through true collaboration. Our door is always open to those who share that same mission—because when partnerships are strong, communities are stronger.

BIG NEWS FOR TAHLEQUAH! 📢

We are thrilled to announce that after a successful 6-week trial period, the City of Tahlequah has officially voted to make our Naloxone cabinets a permanent fixture in our community! 👏
✨During this past city board meeting, city officials unanimously passed the MOA, solidifying a partnership between the City and the Cherokee County Health Services Council (CCHSC) / Recovery 918.
🤝Why This Matters Our county has lost 75 neighbors to overdose in the last five years. These cabinets remove barriers to life-saving medication, ensuring help is available 24/7 in our public spaces.
📍 Where to find them:
Behind the Dog Park
Felts Park
Behind the Senior Citizens building
Near the bathrooms at Sequoyah Park
A huge thank you to our City Administrators for their vision and for standing with us to prioritize the health and safety of every resident. Together, we are saving lives and reducing the stigma surrounding addiction.

Checking in from the Rx Drug Summit in Nashville! 📍

Marcus Buchanan and Jennifer Phillips are here to learn from the best in the SUD and mental health fields. The data shows progress—overdose deaths have dropped from 100,000 to approximately 70,000—but that is still 70,000 too many.

To continue this downward trend, we’re for:

More to tear down the surrounding .

Stronger between , , and for accurate reporting.

Grateful for the networking and the innovations we’ve seen so far. Let's keep working together!
