The Zoo Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit fundraising organization whose purpose is to lend financial support to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. The Zoo Society fosters the relationship between Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and our community by raising funds and generating community support. Our Pancakes, Pajamas, & Play event was full of fun, bugs, and crafts!! 🪲

Held before the zoo opened, 85 guests had the chance to make animal-shaped pancakes, participate in a scavenger hunt and plinko, and craft a paper caterpillar and bug hotel! With plenty to do, and the weather cooperating, guests of all ages had a wonderful time that ended in a raffle and entrance to the zoo. 🐾

Our special event for Vision Keepers, Up Close: Animal Welfare, was both fun and enlightening! 🐾

Guests got a look into zookeeper’s heads on how they determine and assess animal wellbeing. Afterwards, they were invited to observe animals and attempt an assessment on their own! 🔎

Thank you to everyone who came to our first event of the year, Zootinis & Bites, and helped us raise $6,300 in support of Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium! We enjoyed yummy food, fun drinks, an exclusive silent auction, and sneak peaks into animal trainings. 🐾

Parks Tacoma's 2026 bond proposal would allow us to build fresh spaces to serve animals and guests for years to come! 🌳

The bond, which would not raise the current tax rate, would be helping to update our penguin habitat and the surrounding area. The new design would prioritize the well-being of our penguins, while also allowing guests to discover how deeply our lives depend on healthy oceans. 🐧

Alongside the penguins, the bond would fund more than 100 projects in at least 40 parks and community centers. These investment projects would help our community connect to nature, create gathering spaces, and keep our parks open and safe. ✨

Every year, we sponsor thousands of children's field trips to the zoo. In the 24-25 school year, we served over 7,400 children.
