The animal for the month of August is the Red Wolf! 🐺

Red Wolves are the most endangered wolves in the world, and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is helping to lead the way in reestablishing these wolves in the wild. Our off-site facility is home to the largest population of Red Wolves in the world. 🐾

So special to look back at the success of our Wild Whispers: Long Table through these photos ✨

Food was delicious, animals were adorable, and the atmosphere (thanks to Tacoma Little Theatre and TLB EVENTS!) made this Long Table a night to remember! Not only did we raise $201,000, with $103,000 going to a new animal transport vehicle for our wonderful vet team, but the enjoyment of those who attended is palpable in these shots! 🥂

Did you know The Zoo Society has a kiosk in Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium? AND that the inside was recently renovated? 🐾

Our kiosk sits across from “Sally,” the bronze sea turtle, and has been dormant for a little while. That is until we got in there, fixed it up, and made it ready to share with you all! (Slide through the photos to see what it looked like before 😧)

Wild Whispers: Long Table Dinner & Auction was an incredible success! ✨

Together, we raised more than $201,000—enough to fund a brand new animal transport vehicle for our animal healthcare team at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Equipped with all the bells and whistles, this specialized vehicle will help provide safe, reliable transportation for animals receiving medical care, supporting their health and well-being for years to come.

We are so incredibly grateful for this community of supporters that came together to make a lasting difference. To everyone who was part of this unforgettable evening, thank you for making Wild Whispers such a remarkable success!

On Saturday, we hosted an auction winner and 35 guests to a Progressive Dinner!

• We started in the plaza with a visit from Jumbo Jet while he munched on a strawberry and guests had the opportunity to ask Keeper Suzanne questions 🐢

• Guests walked down to the Asian Forest Sanctuary for delicious appetizers and cocktails 🍸

• A sensory wine tasting experience was held in the Pacific Seas Aquarium with Pomum Cellars 🍷

• A delicious dinner took place in Red Wolf Woods, and the wolves gave everyone an up-close look 🌲

• The night ended with cherries jubilee, bananas foster, and coffee in the plaza as the sun set ✨

Our Pancakes, Pajamas, & Play event was full of fun, bugs, and crafts!! 🪲

Held before the zoo opened, 85 guests had the chance to make animal-shaped pancakes, participate in a scavenger hunt and plinko, and craft a paper caterpillar and bug hotel! With plenty to do, and the weather cooperating, guests of all ages had a wonderful time that ended in a raffle and entrance to the zoo. 🐾

Our special event for Vision Keepers, Up Close: Animal Welfare, was both fun and enlightening! 🐾

Guests got a look into zookeeper’s heads on how they determine and assess animal wellbeing. Afterwards, they were invited to observe animals and attempt an assessment on their own! 🔎

Thank you to everyone who came to our first event of the year, Zootinis & Bites, and helped us raise $6,300 in support of Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium! We enjoyed yummy food, fun drinks, an exclusive silent auction, and sneak peaks into animal trainings. 🐾

Parks Tacoma's 2026 bond proposal would allow us to build fresh spaces to serve animals and guests for years to come! 🌳

The bond, which would not raise the current tax rate, would be helping to update our penguin habitat and the surrounding area. The new design would prioritize the well-being of our penguins, while also allowing guests to discover how deeply our lives depend on healthy oceans. 🐧

Alongside the penguins, the bond would fund more than 100 projects in at least 40 parks and community centers. These investment projects would help our community connect to nature, create gathering spaces, and keep our parks open and safe. ✨
