π Mason Middle School β Cuts Tracker
Across Tacoma Public Schools, staffing cuts are accelerating. Vital student supports are being eliminated or reduced for the 2025-26 school year.
At least 2 key student support positions are being eliminated or displaced at Mason Middle School this spring:
β€ 1 Instructional Coach displaced (lost to another site)
β€ 1 Librarian displaced (Library program reduced to 0.2 FTE β 1 period per day)
Right now, Masonβs full-time library program offers students:
π Daily lunchtime access and programs
π Summer offerings
π Battle of the Books
π After-school book clubs
π A warm, welcoming environment where students read, learn, and connect
Next year, with just 1 period per day staffed, what will be left?
At 0.2 FTE, the library can support little more than clerical or administrative tasks β not a full program. Office staff β already overworked β may be asked to provide occasional depersonalized self-checkout access.
The vibrant, student-centered library experience Mason Mustangs currently enjoy will be gutted.
Future Mason Mustangs deserve full-time, high-quality library services β literacy programs current Mustangs receive daily.
